Hi Moon, I eat lettuce like a BUNNY. I love every kind-Boston, Redleaf-Romaine-Garden but do not purchase or consume Iceberg Lettuce.

Our simple way of preparing: Wash thoroughly by swishing in a large bowl of water(gets rid of grit and fine particles-versus under running water).
Break into pieces using fingers-otherwise discolors easy.
Salata Vinegar, Olive Oil, onion powder, garlic powder, and lemon juice. Wee bit of juice and spices. Toss well and get BUNNY happy!
This kind of vinegar is not available everywhere. We got spoiled on it in Germany and it is the only kind we use since living there. Is very mild and all our Grand children beg for salad.

PREPARATION
Generally lettuce is eaten raw, so consider removing any browned, slimy, or wilted leaves. For all lettuce types, you should thoroughly wash and ‘dry’ the leaves to remove any dirt or lingering insects. If you eat lettuce often, it’s wise to invest in a salad spinner. Simply rinse the leaves and place in the spinner to remove the excess water.

In addition to their most common use in salads, you can also braise, steam, sauté and even grill certain lettuce varieties to create a wonderful and different taste treat. Try halving a head of radicchio or romaine lengthwise, and brush on some extra virgin olive oil, and grill until they soften and just begin to brown-absolutely delicious.

* Make Lettuce Part of Your 5 A Day Plan
* Here are some easy ways to include lettuce into your meals:
* Add lettuce to ALL your sandwiches.
* Try a different mix of lettuce like European or baby greens for a tasty twist to your usual salad.
* Grilling tonight? Why not try spritzing some extra virgin olive oil onto romaine or radicchio leaves and grill until slightly soft — these make an excellent hors d'oeuvre.
* Get creative, include any variety of lettuce into meals as plate liners you can eat!

If I am just going to eat lettuce that I usually dip the leaf in either an herbal vinegrette or I just use a rice wine vinegar alone. It only takes a little to add a lot of flavor to the lettuce.

QUICK LETTUCE SALAD
1 head lettuce, broken in bite size pieces
3 green onions, sliced
6 slices bacon, fried crisp and crumbled
Pour bacon and drippings over greens and toss until all leaves are lightly coated (don't be afraid if drippings are hot, lettuce will not wilt).
Dressing:
1 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
Blend dressing ingredients, pour over greens, and toss lightly. Serve right away. The leftovers are great the next day when it is wilted.

I wrap a leaf around a piece of cheese sometimes. Usually in my salad I have tomato, spring onion, maybe a hardboiled egg cut up in it, a drained can of shrimp and some real bacon bits then top it off with a little dressing. Quick lunch for me! With Romaine I put in a bit of oil, some garlic salt, a raw egg, grate some parmesan {lots} lemon juice and some red wine VINEGAR toss, toss, toss. YUMMMMMM! Enjoy!!!

I absolutely hate ice burg lettuce and pretty much won't eat it. I really like arugula, endive, and radicchio, almost always eaten as a salad with balsamic vinegar and olive oil all over it :)
