I can't take her to the vet cause I just don't have the money!! I know what your thinking then"why do you have a pet?" I found a cat six months ago and she was so skiny,so I took her to the vet and we got her healthy $400 later. We were in the middle of a move three month ago and a male cat some how got in, when we weren't there!! 60 days later she had two kittens!! One of them is fat and looks very healthy. the other is skiny and doesn't seem to be getting enough milk from moma.. Moma cat does't seem like she has very much milk ether. So I'm thinking that the bigger kitten is fighting for what she does have! I thought I would try and give the skiny kitten (Baby formula!) Does anyone no if this is OK????? Please Help!!!

PLEASE DON'T FEED BABY FORMULA. Baby formula usually has cow's milk in it and most cats are lactose intolerant. Cow's milk will make them sick. You need to supplement the kitten with KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement). You can find it in any pet store in either liquid or powder form (which is mixed with water to turn into a liquid). You will also need to get a nursing bottle for kittens. It's a small bottle with a nipple that is similar to its mother's teets. Obviously mother's milk is best and with only 2 kittens there should be plenty to go around. Make sure you are feeding the mother cat extra food because lactating cats need extra calories to produce milk. Most breeders will feed the mother kitten food because it is much higher in calories for growing kittens and nursing mother cats. Good luck.

Do *not* give the kitten baby formula!

The cheapest way to feed a three week kitten is with powdered KITTEN formula. You can get it at Wal-Mart or nay pet store.

I find that using a medicine dropper is easier than using a bottle. SO you can save on the cost of a bottle if you have a clean medicine dropper.

There are a few recipes to make your own kitty formula. I'll post a few sites:

Look for "Recipes for Emergency Kitten Fomula" about half way down the page.

No, but you can buy kitten formula at most pet supply stores. You can start mixing it with some canned kitten food and making a "gruel" type liquid and seeing if they will start eating it from a dish. Usually around three to four weeks you can start weaning if need be.
You can try just canned kitten food...some will start eating it at this age.
Or you can try bottle feeding the kitten with the KITTEN FORMULA. Not baby formula. Kittens are lactose intolerant and you are likely to cause diarrhea.

there is formula specifically for kittens... if you live in an area with a feedstore, it will be less expensive than buying it from a pet supply store or vet clinic.. check the phone book and call ahead to see if they stock it... should be less than $10 a container... i would think that baby formula might hurt a kitten because it's not nutritionally balanced the same way...

NO! Baby formula is formulated for human babies and won't be at all beneficial to the kitten. Buy it specific kitten formula and get the momma cat spayed so you don't have any more surprises! Good luck.

I would recommend buying some powdered formula mix specifically for kittens. They sell it at practically every pet store known to man. Also, you may want to buy some kitten food for the "momma" kitten. She may not be getting enough nutritionally to be able to support two kittens. Kitten food ranks higher on the energy scale and could help her to be able to support two babies.
Hope everything goes well for you all!
