I have recently (over the past 6 months or so) noticed that my scars are becomming more and more painful. I obtained some fairly heavy scarring (throughout various parts of my body) way back in 1991.

Some have started to become "raised up" and are bloody sore to touch. The ones on my feet are especially uncomfortable when they touch the inside of my footwear, and the others are just plain tender, even if touching the bedding.

They do NOT bleed or weep fluid, but are tight and raised.

I haven't been bothered by them for nearly 10 years, so any suggestions as to why now after all this time?

Oh, and there's NO way I'm a goin' back to them thar "witch doctors" - some of those bug gers think they can put scrambled eggs back into the shell.

Thanks for the 1st two answers. I have tried various creams (E45 and Oilatum emoliant) and have been prescribed Oilatum and Dermol 600 for the bath water. Short term relief (until the shoes go back on.)

Oh, they hurt even when I walk without shoes i.e: barefoot.

I think maybe amputation from the neck up may be the only hope.........

probably due to a build up of keloidal tissue creating pressure on the surrounding healthy tissue. Suggest you soften the scar tissue with vitamin E oil, wear looser shoes or sandals.

love your sense of humor- i am one of those witch doctors in the makings- but i think i can help you from personal experience.

Sometimes scars constrict, especially in persons who have a tendency to form keloid (raised, reddened scars) ones. The only way to soften them (if you want to avoid surgery) is keeping them moisturized, from the inside out.
How do you moisturize your skin from the inside? Take a supplement rich in vitamin E and omega acids. Take a tablespoonful of extra virgin olive oil every day (it works to aid your digestion, too). And keep them moisturized with a lotion that has either Shea butter or Cocoa butter.
