I don't buy it. 2 consenting people of the same sex can't get a marriage license, but somehow we will be marrying robots by 2050? Yeah right.
Hell, I don't even want to marry a human, much less a robot. A robot would need to have its own consciousness and free will, the ability to make personal, subjective choices...nothing in the article said they would be that advanced, and as far as I can tell, nobody can marry an object, no matter how human it is programmed to seem.

I find this idea a little disconcerting. Not that I'd try to stop someone from marrying a robot, but I don't think I'd do so. I don't see too many pros. I guess if you're a total misanthrope but you still find yourself feeling lonely, it'd be a good thing. Even disregarding the fact that the robot is not a living, thinking person, I don't see the appeal of a companion that is not free to leave the relationship, and I don't see the appeal of a relationship without disagreement, challenge, and change.
If the question is merely sexual gratification without the hassle of human interaction, there are much cheaper solutions (your hand doesn't cost anything).

I would marry one of the ones on a car factory floor. The pros would be it could build you a car or at least part of it and it would aid you in picking up things I would imagine. The cons are you couldn't take it to restaurants or the theatre and I would imagine it would be uncomfotable and painful in bed though some people might see that as a pro.

If he looked like Clive Owen, meh. The cons would be it'd break down and I'd have to call the Geek Squad for robots or something to help fix it up. That would be a bummer.

I'm sure some tech heads will be first in line for this, just like with the iPhone, but I rather have a spouse who honestly loves me because they chose to, not one who is programmed too.

pros : its not abuse when you make her do dishes and all the household chores. it will bring you a beer whenever you ask and not argue.
cons : can u imagine how gross it would be? and the upkeep?
it would need a power source, for those who had sex with them, you'd have to clean them out after each use...

Hmm, I guess it depends on whether the robot is "fully functional", and anatomically correct.
Giggity.

I did. My wife is a robot made out of meat, just like everyone else's spouse.

No. That is why we must come to Jesus via free will and by faith. Jesus does not want to marry a robot either.
