Take her to the vet and have him/her check

It's pretty tough to do if you don't know the dog's history. Some vets are now tattooing a symbol on females they spay to indicate they are altered. Sometimes, if you or someone experienced looks very closely, you can see a spay scar. As far as telling if they have ever had pups, you con sometimes tell by the size of the vulva or the sagginess of the mammaries. But it really is a guess.

You can shave for a spay scar and ASSUME that the dog has been spayed...although not always fool-proof if the dog has had other abdominal surgery.
If she has not and you get her spayed, the vet can tell with some degree of certinity if the uterus has been "used" before.

take her to the vet and the person above is correct sometimes there is a scar. But your vet would be able to tell you right away

There is no easy way of telling if a b itch has been spayed, and it is even harder to know if she has ever had a litter of pups.
