BTW, the Mary Renault book The King Must Die is an incredible historical fiction.
It is the story of Theseus and the Minotaur as retold by a world acclaimed anthropologist and historian. The scenes with the worshiping of the bull are oddly reminiscent of the modern bull fight (and possibly related).
