Our representatives in Congress hold the power to determine how our tax dollars are spent. But what happens when a Senator attempts to fund a project that is unconstitutional?
An earmark was recently added to the Senate Fiscal Year 2008 Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriation Bill's Committee Report that would put $100,000 of federal funding directly in the hands of the Louisiana Family Forum, an organization that has a history of aggressively sponsoring the teaching of creationism and other theories that debate evolution in schools. The funding is for a project that would allow this group to "to develop a plan to promote better science education," but this group would surely use these funds to undermine the teaching of real science.

In truth, there is no controversy in the scientific community over the theory of evolution. Thus, attempting to debunk it or single it out for criticism using taxpayer money can serve no valid secular teaching purpose. Every major scientific organization and the overwhelming majority of scientists agree that evolution is the best and only scientific explanation for the diversity of species.
The courts have been consistent in finding that governmental efforts to hinder the teaching of evolution or to promote the teaching of alternate "theories" violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The religious tone of creationism and its proponents, including Louisiana Family Forum, makes such groups completely inappropriate recipients of federal funding for science education.

Most Christians will cherry pick the Constitution and tell you it's freedom of speech and Religion. The same people will tell you there is no such thing as the Establishment Clause because it defeats their purpose.

I can tell you are misinformed and severely brainwashed. Nothing about macro evolution has ever been proven.
Spontaneous generation was disproven over 5 decades ago yet there are still idiots who will still buy into it simply cause it's taught in public schools.
Funny thing is evolutionists will mock believers of religion while at the same time believing the universe was created by a tiny dot that exploded and all living creatures evolved from some rocks.
There is nothing dumber or more ignorant than someone who believes macro evolution is for real.
Gimme all the thumbs down you want, fools. At least I'm not the one made to believe everything evolved from nothing. Morons!

One doctrine that defines Fundamentalism, Biblical Literalism, is directly contradicted by science. They will take every measure, including illegal and immoral means, to fight against the facts. There's big money to be made. How much do you think the lawyers are going to make if this earmark gets into court system?

Because that is the way government works.
In order to get the funding criteria must be met.
You are generalizing when you say how they are going to use the funds.
How do you know they are trying to "undermine science"?
You have just as much right as they do for funding for your purposes.
My advice is to apply instead of creating a lost political debate.

This is the probem with our government these days. Although I have no answer for your question, I do agree that this is unconstitutional, since it violates the separation of States and Religion.
Seems like nobody values the Constitution anymore.

Very informative!
Organized religion just can't get enough of meddling in everyone's lives. Even if that means twisting science around to something that is complete fantasy. It does piss me off to think my tax dollars are going to fund something so absurd.

$100,000 dollars huh? That's the cost of a Senate Hearings lunch bill.... Anyway, what about the Tax payer Funded Muslim School in New York City. Tax Payer funded not just a mesely $100,000.00 but a complete funding. Let's attack the Christians as we kowtow to the rights of others.

Depressing isn't it. The sadder thing is that more time will need to be spent showing how each of the creationist claims are totally and completely wrong.

Creationist fans are just retarded and don't understand the difference between faith and science unfortunately they have enough votes in some areas to buy our politicians just like other groups do and there isn't much we can do about it.
