Only in response to a direct invasion by hostile military forces -- not for purposes of enforcing federal immigration laws.

See among others, the Posse Comittatus Act, and the War Powers Act of 1973.

The Executive Branch has the duty to defend our country from all enemies BOTH foreign and domestic. So if that means making sure they quit coming in through the borders on all sides be it the northern, southern or the sea's, then they must do that. If they don't it's a Delireliction of Duty.

Yep, the President can deploy the military to secure the borders.

NO, The Military according to the constrution cannot perform a police role. That is for the national guard and the states to handle the policing of the border.
In order for the executive branch to be givent this power there would need to be a constutional amendment.
