Has anyone used the Bayesian-Moroni calculator to ascertain if the Book of Mormon is true? Here it is:

The people who are using that calculator are applying it wrong.

Bayesian epistemology requires prior probabilities (what the page refers to as a priori) that are uncertain. Putting 100% (or 0%) in the first box defaults on this requirement.

Regardless, I'm a Bayesian and not a Mormon.

EDIT: I love Moonman's response. "Just because it has numbers doesn't make it scientific."

The fact that Bayesian probability theory is widely accepted as a valid epistemological system by philosophers of science makes it scientific.

Everybody who says that the calculator is stupid should go learn about Bayesianism. That way you'll understand that our brains use a version of these calculations in determining our level of certainty regarding beliefs.

advantageous although i do no longer think you relatively asked or tried to get an answer via fact the Holy Ghost would not permit you already know that. basically analyzing your flippant statements like they're some checklist is offensive! i understand the e book of Mormon is authentic and that the LDS church is the only authentic church. i understand that the temple is God's abode in the international. i even have pity for you dude! advantageous rant, Brother Troll!

Wow, that's the most clever way I've seen to try and lead people away from the truth. It almost makes it sound like scientific fact or indisputable logic or something. Even the name sounds all scientific, "Bayesian."

Ultimately people will turn to God for truth or to man. Either way they will find what they are looking for and they will believe it. Those who seek truth will find it in The Book of Mormon and those who seek the philosophies of men will find them in you.

It is indeed true. Not only have I prayed and received an answer concerning its truth every time, but I have witnessed a positive change in the life of everyone who has studied it and lived its teachings.

By the way, your calculator is totally arbitrary and proves nothing, since you are supposed to come up with the numbers on the spot. Just because it has numbers it doesn't make it scientific.

HAHA.

What a silly calculator.

If God tells me by the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon is true, all the jackasses in the world saying it isn't true will make NO difference.

If all the jackasses in the world say that there is no sun in the sky, will it be true?

Personal revelation will never be negated by all the jackasses on Earth.

Where did you find that piece of crap? It doesn't prove anything. Some biased piece of garbage is not going to tell me that the Book of Mormon isn't true.

The site calls the "test" FAMOUS. Famous with who? It's a joke!

Hmm.. This could be good or bad. Since you can put what ever numbers you want, it doesn't lead to a true answer. It's what you believe, and what you feel in your heart that matters. That is the true test.

Don't need any calculator... I read it... long time before I came to know The Truth of God... way back when I was a basher of those Chrisitians as well... and even I could see that those Christians had a whole lot more to offer than the joke that is the book of mormon... 29 yrs later I came to know The Truth of God... then I started to study His Word... The Bible of The True Christian Faith is only for those open to The leading of God Through The Holy Spirit.... There is no inerrant text of The Bible existant today... only those open to God's leading will find what He has for them...

but how about the other joke the mormons have that they do not talk about any more... the bible that J Smith claimed that God gave Him directly...and all of the leaders of the cult of moroni claimed for years to be "the only bible"... why... if god suposadly gave them the "true"bible...do they now go around giving away what they claim to be The King James bible of the Christians... espacialy when they claimed for generations that the Christians were the enemy and the Christian Bible was false....now they even claim to be christian...which they ain't... every thing about the mormon teaching is false and a deception..... I knew the truth of the forces of evil before I knew about the mormons... and when I saw what they were offering I knew very well the cource of there so-called"religion" and it sure is not from God.... I concider the mormons the Lost and Deceived by Satan(LDS).... and I knew the truth of satan befor I knew The Truth of God... so my opinion of them is not based on "Christian" teaching... but from personal experienc

I just tried it and got a 100% probability that it is false. This calculator is rather misleading though as it is not based on any real facts or evidence. Compelling pieces of evidence would be the golden tablets, the "magic" spectacles or archaeological evidence of the civilizations mentioned in the book. Without anything like this, it must be judged a made up religion.
