My policy was cancelled about a month ago and I want to reinstate as my registration is about to be cancelled too.

It depends, most companies will not, they will require a new application to start the policy again.
If it was Progressive and on your renewal date that the policy cancelled, they will accept payment (up to 45 days I believe but that may be different state to state) and restart your policy the day after paid & your policy will have a new renewal date. You will retain the same policy number and coverages - there will be a lapse of coverage but you will not need to reapply.
If it was Dairyland - they will accept payment on a cancelled policy (that was cancelled for nonpayment) midterm. It will be effective on the day after they receive payment (you will need to call to find out how much they need to restart the policy). They will issue a new policy number and but keep the same coverages and no new application will be needed.
The best thing to do is to call your agent if you have one, or call the company directly if you do not.

Reinstating Car Insurance After Cancellation

It would depend on the reason it was canceled in the first place. In some states once they cancel your registration they might also revoke your license.

Step one, call the insurance company and ask about be reinstated, they will have the only answer that matters after all.

If the policy was cancelled for too many claims (or violations) , you will probably need to get "risk" insurance. It is much higher and usually has to be carried for 3 years.
