Antibiotics do not work for colds so you must have heard the doc wrong. Sounds like a bad case of bronchitis but only a doc can know for sure.

Sounds like it could be bronchitis. A viral bronchitis will generally resolve on its own in a week or two, a bacterial bronchitis can be resolved with antibiotics depending on the type of bacteria causing the infection. Using a humidifier at night can help loosen secretions (just be sure to use a cool-mist humidifier if you have small children in the house). An over the counter decongestant can help as well. Hope you feel better soon!

Antibiotics won't do anything for a cold, your doctor may have thought you were heading towards a sinus infection or bronchitis, maybe an upper respiratory infection. You'll probably live - that's the good news - but you may have a couple more days of feeling miserable before you start getting better. Hang in there, stay hydrated - lots of warm tea, honey will help the sore throat.

if the doctor thought you had a cold, he should not have given you antibiotics because colds are caused by viruses and they do not respond to antibiotics which are for treating bacterial infections. I would not take them unless you develop a fever greater than 102. Just my personal opinion mind you, but why take them if they don't treat viruses?
A fever would indicate bacterial infection and then the antibiotic would be appropriate.

Yeah, antibiotics don't do anything to colds and the flu. You'll have to sit this one out and wait for it to go away, or do some research and then talk to your doctor about it possibly being something else that can be treated. Maybe not all your symptoms were brought up and he/she misdiagnosed you? Good luck. :( I hate being sick!
