One states it is to show that the tradition of washing your hands is unneccesary as it was created by man and passed on merely as the word of God.
The other states the purpose was to sanctify all foods good for eating.
If Christ was without sin he would have fulfilled the law completely, including the dietary laws of eating kosher foods...in condoning the eating of all foods he is in fact condoning sin whereas if the real lesson is abolishing man made tradition added to the Law the washing of the hands is the real lesson... thoughts?

When answers are given I am not looking for clarification on Matt 5:17-20 and the fulfillment of the Law but rather personal insights on the variation between these 2 passages

Jesus is not here discouraging normal hygiene. He is not arguing that a person need not wash his hands before preparing food or eating a meal. Rather, Jesus is condemning the hypocrisy of religious leaders who deviously try to circumvent God’s righteous laws by insisting on unscriptural traditions. Yes, it is wicked deeds that defile a man, and Jesus shows that these originate in a person’s heart. John 7:1; Deuteronomy 16:16; Matthew 15:1-20; Mark 7:1-23; Exodus 20:12; 21:17; Isaiah 29:13.

I see what you are saying. The Law was that men should observe the Sabbath also. And in the Old Testament it is stated that no servile work should be done, but He also said this:
Exodus 31:13
"Say to the Israelites, 'You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.
I would contest the use of the last comma in that verse. Throughout the Bible, the trust in God comes from God. He makes us 'Holy' (dedicated) the desire to follow Him comes from Him.
Thus, Jesus was saying the he is the one who gave them to the Hebrews. The Jews who held on to the oracle, many of them did not recognize who Jesus is. To which Jesus said this:
24 "I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins." (John 8)
So I am persuaded that God determined when Jesus spoke as Jesus the man, and when He spoke as Jesus the God. At times, he placed himself above the Law, and at other times He spoke as a man, who fulfilled the Law - being without sin.
It is because of things that are found in the scriptures that I believe Jesus made himself apparent, in that his nature was both man and God. When people see this they see contradiction, when I see it it is God fulfilling His word and revealing His nature.

There are no kosher foods in the New Testament. The dietary laws were for setting up the nation of Israel. In the New Testament God said do not call what I have made unclean. Following the law leads to death. Following Christ leads to life.

Matthew 15:10-20 teaches about sin's defilement of our speech and heart.
Mark 7:14-19 teaches about the source of this sin. (the heart.)
I don't see any dietary laws at all, except that sin is the real issue.
If you see washing of hands and dietary laws, you have not received the truth of what Jesus was really teaching.
The two passages coincide and confirm one another, they teach exactly the same thing!
