I keep a UV filter on my digital slr lenses to protect them while in use. Should I remove them before adding a polarizing lens, or can I mount the polarizer directly to the UV filter? I know I can mount them there, but what are the advantages or disadvantages to doing so?

I personally wouldn't have two filters mounted in front of my lens if it wasn't necessary. The more you have, the more chance there is of vignetting, particularly with wide angle lenses You don't need the UV filter whilst you are using the polarising (after all, probably the main reason you use it is as a lens protection) so I would take it off.

I use the UV filter as a protection on my lens. You will not see Any effect in using Any filter with a UV filter. But if you drop your camera it help to protect the lens. UV only cuts haste in a picture. Always keep a clear or UV filter on the lens.

Remove the UV filter when using the polarizer. Stacking them could cause slight vignetting -darkening of the corners of the frame, especially with a wide angle lens.
