I used to LOVE soda. But after watching this video made me realize how much sugar is in juice and soda. Yuck! I vowed never to drink soda again.

I do love soda. But I know about the sugar and empty calories. It took me a while, but I made the switch to diet soda, and that's a treat that I enjoy in lieu of an actual solid dessert. I try to stick to water.

A typical 12oz can of Coca Cola has 150 Calories, and that's actually lower compared to other sugared sodas. To put that into context, it takes about 10 minutes of running or 30 minutes of moderate walking to burn 150 Calories.

Then think about the size of a typical soda at a fast food joint. They're 20oz at least! A typical large soda is 32-44oz. That's SEVERAL HUNDRED extra calories in your meal.

It's best to cut soda out altogether. In addition to the empty calories, the acids in the actual soda water can weaken your teeth and phosphates in some sodas can weaken your bones.

But there is such thing as "harm reduction" and "enjoying things in moderation." Occasional consumption is not bad. And you can find non-caloric substitutes like diet soda, or sparkling water. Just make sure you get plenty of exercise and multi-vitamin/calcium supplements if you want to keep drinking the occasional soda.

I used to be a soda fiend, that sweet carbonated deliciousness. Nowadays it is too sweet for me, and it actually makes me sick when I try to drink the full flavor stuff.
I have a diet soda once a week, but at this point I'm considering even cutting that out. Soda is one of those things that has no value to us other than pacifying the sugar addiction that has been brought on by irresponsible capitalism.

I really like the science video you posted. Thanks for sharing that.

I didn't grow up with soda around the house, so it was always a treat. To this day, I love a Coke in a nice glass with really good-quality ice. You will be amazed at how good ice, like the bagged ice from the store or a dedicated ice machine, improves all your drinks and cocktails! Home freezer ice sucks.

I cannot imagine drinking soda all day. I see so many people "nursing" a giant soda everywhere they go.

I've known about the high levels of sugar. I usually drink water, but sometimes enjoy having a soda for that exact reason...wanting the quick sugar rush to give me a boost. Not something I do often though, I've found I feel much better now that I've cut it mostly out of my diet.

Believe it or not, I can't stand the stuff! I'm fifteen and I think the carbonation gets to me. I wasn't raised with soda, so I think that has a lot to do with it. I'm actually glad I don't like it, because it's not very healthy for you. I know I sound boring, but I would rather drink water any day.

I love soda, and will still drink it in moderation. As long as you don't drink an excessive amount EVERYDAY, 1 can or two every week won't kill you. Yes, it does have a lot of sugar, but if you're balancing your meals nutritionally everyday, it's okay to splurge and enjoy a can of soda :)

I have never liked pops - not as a child, young adult, nor now. Not my taste - I love water.
