It is not a question of brand, but battery capacity. Digital cameras are notoriously power-hungry. I would recommend two sets of 2600 mAh NimH cells and a "smart" charger.

I have to agree with using NiMh rechargeable batteries. Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) cells don't deliver the wattage needed for digital cameras and speedlites.

I also agree with buying the larges capacity cells your wallet can afford.

However, I suggest staying away from the "one-hour recharge" NiMH cells and the associated chargers if you really don't need fast recharging. Based on my experience and the experience of some friends and relatives, they work fine but just don't have the number of recharge cycles that the conventional slow-charge cells have - on the order of well less than 100 recharge cycles.

Brands? I've used EverReady, Kodak, Sanyo, and "digital" brand NiMH cells in my cameras. The Kodak quick charge cells had the above mentioned problem with fewest recharge cycles.
