I feel your pain. My family is somewhat similar to that. One Cousin was deeply troubled at a family reunion, my wife asked why and was told that their TV had stopped working and were pondering if God was telling them to stop watching TV. My wife asked how old the set was as it might still be under warranty, and the astounding answer that it was a second hand set over 20 years old.
Granted not watching TV is probably a good thing, but a 20 year old TV is likely to have just given up the ghost rather than being a sign.

Hey bud, I feel exactly the same way you do! How does having a tattoo have anything to do with religion...unless it is dealing directly with it! Hell, my aunt had her eyebrows tattooed on her since they got singed off at an early age! Does that mean that she will go to hell! Also, some ultra religious people feel that you shouldn't drink...then why are some of them sipping at wine at church...is that not drinking? Bible never said to NOT drink....just limit it! Then people always wanna bash other peoples religions....WTF...if you wanna think this way and I wanna think that way...then leave me the F#$* alone! I don't wanna be bothered with your crap and you don't wanna be bothered with mine. SO....yes, I feel that religion is ruining some peoples lives completely. They are so burried in it. Maybe they just need to move into a monistary and be surrounded by it 24/7 and leave the rest of us to do what we want!

I'm not convinced that your sister-in-law has had a warped experience so much as having another problem. The hardline religious stuff probably isn't helping, though. She sounds vaguely like she may have an Obsessive/Compulsive problem.
It almost sounds like some kind of family intervention might be warranted. Maybe with the help of a pastor.
Peace

Yep, there are allot of people like that in my circle.
I have an aunt that always circles every conversation back to religion and her denomination.
It makes for a hell of a long Thanksgiving dinner, and several pissed off relatives. She does it consistently and believes she is doing the will of God by attempting to save us all.
It goes to show how dangerous religion can be, because she is completely ignorant of the harm her actions cause and feels completely justified in doing them.
Its probably very similar to the justification that crusaders went through before running heathen children through with swords.

Yep, that is utterly pathetic. People like that are the most worthless forms of religious people. That lady needs to realize that she is letting her religious beliefs ruin other peoples lives. Her life already sounds pathetic and ruined, so the only real option for you is to impale her with a rusty cross. I am sorry that you have to deal with crap like that. I would never be able to associate with someone like that ever. To hell with religion.

Religious fanatacism ruined my 25-year marriage. She became freakish to the point that we couldn't have sex any more - I could not even get to see her undressed. She is brainwashing our two young sons (10 & 5) that everything they do has religious overtones - they are becoming socially misfit due to this and their school work is suffering tremendously. I guess I am feeling sorry for myself here a bit, but I feel worse for my sons and my ex-wife.

I feel bad for people such as those you describe. However, I think that many of them are that way despite their religious preferences not because of them. The tenents of most religions, if truly adhered to, should produce happier, kinder people.

It's a sad and depressing thing... funny thing, though, ever try to debate with these people?
I once tried with someone, sort of pretended to be Christian (I'm not Christian, but bound by oath to never lie, so kinda... had to choose my words carefully). Was asking from the angle of someone new to the faith wanting to learn more about it, and attempted to probe for depth in their beliefs. I honestly would like to understand it better. But even religious fanatics like this still have no depth to their beliefs... and STILL got angry at me for asking questions like that. **chuckles** I still hope there is some depth in the Christian faith... it makes me feel better to think that they're not all stupid/mindless/blindly following because Daddy and Mommy said so. Ok, so maybe I'm deluded in that... **sighs**

Yes, it does make me sad. I have some very religious relatives as well, and I'm worried that they'll raise a stink if my current boyfriend and I get married because he's and Atheist (I'm an Agnostic) and we don't want a church wedding. I'll be very hurt if my grandparents choose to disrupt or not come to my wedding instead of putting aside our differences and just being happy for me.
