Did you feel good when you ex kept calling you for days, weeks, even months after you two broke it off? Did it give you an ego of some sort, that he or she was still trying to see or get back with you (even though you did not want them).
If so, why?

Hell no.... i broke up with him b/c i didnt want to be with him..... i really wanted to be friends with him , but he messed that up by calling all the damn time.... i would rather him not want me and get on with his life

Nope just annoyed me for the most part, but I won't deny a hint of a growing ego, till I slapped myself in the face!!!! It always feels good to have someone want you but the level of want has to be equal in return to really feel good or you just have no soul and love being wanted by everybody!!

People may break it off at one level, but still stay in communication, if that is what they both wish. I never feed my ego off of others.....that is very selfish and deceitful.

it feels good if you love him still....you felt special.
but irritating if you really want to get rid of him from the moment you broke up.
