I chose a really classy dress for my bridesmaids and everyone loved it! However when my maid of honor went for a fitting, she was actually bumped up 6 sizes because the dress runs small... I have a bigger girl in my bridal party and i'm afraid she may not be able to get the dress. How should I deal with this?
Me being a bigger girl as well, understands how she may feel if the dress doesn't go to where she needs it to go. It only goes up to a certain size..

The lady at the bridal store said "we can determine that when we bring her in for measurements" I guess im just trying to keep it less 'painful' for her. as i know how the whole fitting thing goes as well...

Any ideas? Should I just change the dress or what should I do?

One of my bridesmaid is bigger than the biggest size. So we just ordered the biggest size the dress came in and based on measurements extra material and the seamstress will add an extra panel to the dress so that it will fit her. Its really no big deal it just cost a bit extra. Luckily she only needed 1 more yard of material and the chiffon. We didn't order the matching lining since no one will see it the seamstress can just use what she already has in her shop. Just allow the extra time needed for altering the dress.

Everything will turn out fine :-)

Most dresses have a plus size extension, seeing how big and fluffy is now beautiful. If that is not the case, the bridal shop can tell you. Maryinc.com has plus sizes in most of their bridesmaids dress, and yes they run very small in regular sizes. My sister who is a 1 work a 12. I would ask the bridal store if the line carries larger sizes before I committed to a dress. I would ask this brides maid if she would rather measure at home and get a rough idea or if you and she are close to the same size use your measurments to do the checking. I went to davids bridal and they told me they had NOTHING to fit me, as a bride, the lady who told me this was my size. She never offered to measure me. She was also on the phone while I waited, with the home office discussing her own dress that was to be shipped. So if she and I are the same size and they were shipping her dress, why could I have not gotten my dress there? I would check with the shop and give aproximate sizes and let them check.

Bring her in for a fitting. Mention it to her first but in a way that isnt directed at her. I would say. "Oh my god did I tell you *maid of honors name* she went for the fitting and now shes a size whatever!. These dresses run really small. Then laugh and say wow I would be like the biggest size they have!" Do it kidding around so she realizes the situation and its not a shock. Then if they can make the dress thats great if not ask them where they get there fabric, if they wont tell you get a swatch. Then go to a local tailor and ask them to match it and make her a dress. A lot of times this may even be less expensive. Bridesmaids dresses generally run from size 0-way into the twenties sometimes thirties so check first. Bring her in for a fitting but dont get discouraged there are alternatives. Ask the place if its possible that they make the dress. If not then maybe you can do the same fabric and color but a different dress. Lots of times the bridesmaids wear different dresses then the maid of honor or everyone wears a different dress which looks fabulous too. Just keep it the same color and fabrics as that creates likeness. Good luck!

I was in a wedding 2 weeks ago and what the bride did was gave me a different dress than the other 2 girls becuase I was the matron of honor...

The dress was the same color and length but differnt style (it was a halter rathre than strapless as the other girls were)...the bride decided on this because I very busty and it would have been impossible for me to go without straps. Consider this.

Also, don't get too stressed yet...places like David's bridal (http://www.davidsbridal.com) have many dresses in plus sizes for larger girls...and alterations make a big differance!

first of all find out what sizes the dress you want comes in. Some designers, like alfred angelo make plus size dresses. The bridal boutique should have that info on hand. if they have a plus size line then you may be okay. otherwise your options are: find a local seamstress that can replicate the gown and just order extra material when ordering the dresses *warning, this gets expensive*
or pick a new dress.

Deep breath moment!

Make sure she gets measured, and then decide. If they have all of the measurements they can help you find a similar dress that is more feasible. Often in 'larger' sizes they can get an almost exact dress in an "A - Line" cut of the skirt, which is very flattering.

Congrats & good luck!

I wouldn't stress out yet until you get there and she gets her measurements done. Because she is the maid of honor, you could offer that she gets a dress all her own if the other one doesn't work out! That way she still feels special.

You could do what I am doing for mine: Get different dresses for each body type. My maid of honor has a body like mine, short and hour glass with big boobs, and my two brides maids are tall and skinny, except one has big boobs. I am picking each dress according to how they are. They will all be the same color, just different styles.

Dont tell her, just ask her to come in and get measured, get her sizes and then you and the dressmaker work it out. If they are any good they will be able to get something for her using her measurements.
