For my readers and for those who gave such exceptional answers like Al_ Asad_ Thank you! I chose this question because I was watching the scene on Trinidy Broad Cast. my believe in the one TRUE GOD is unbreakable and so is my fear towards HIM. I know that God wouldn't ask us to kill our children for him any longer, but what about every day life? What about the things we are supposed to do in his name which we seem to forget so easily. What about showing grace and greatfullness?

i want to break this question down into parts so that it is comprehendible to others, though I'm not so worried about your understanding it, I think you would because the question reflects serious thought

first: taking a human life. Lets look at that. There are those out there that see killing a human being as being nothing out of the ordinary. They are very sick humans and prey on society, killing women, children, being perverts of all description.

next there are those who will not take life even to safe a family member or themselves when in immediate danger.

lastly there are those who will defend with deadly force the family, themselves and society.

the latter two groups do not murder, and to take a life, even if commanded by God is still killing. Now lets break this down further

of the three above, they fall into two groups. Those that have a capacity to love and those that do not. Unloving people are more easily motivated to kill than are the type that love. If you do not love then why think someone else does right?

you can also break this down further to morals, a fear of eternal punishment and such as well as being judged by the local laws in effect now.

Now as to God asking to have you sacrifice your son. Consider first that he was of old age when Isaac was born. He would have to believe that God would raise him from the dead because Isaac was the child of promise.

Can I fit myself into that mould? at this point in my life, given the revelation of scripture, my relationship to God through Christ Jesus, I would require such proof that it was God himself before I could even intertain the thought.

Jesus never talks contrary to scripture, ever. Men do, spirits do, Jesus does not.

I can not answer this beyond this point, as it is contrary to the scriptures.

also, one thing, people that are mentally ballanced have a natural revoltion to killing and to do so, goes against internal mechanisms that are there to protect us from ourselves.

You show your knowledge of Christianity very well (sarcasm). In the Old Testament it states that human sacrifices are despicable and disgusting and to not do what the other pagans in the area were doing (they sacrificed humans). This story happened before that law was made forbidding it and it was a test to see Abraham's allegiance to God, to see if Abraham would put his own son before the will of God. Before he did it called told him to stop and sacrifice a goat instead. Sacrifices were when you give up something that you have in return for the forgiveness/fellowship of God. In other words you would have to monetarily pay for your sins. But this cannot be done because of humans fallibility so God payed it for us with Jesus. God revealed the Law to the Israelites and it showed the necessity for a savior since none could accomplish it and thus were condemned. However, Jesus redeemed them.

The account you are speaking of refers to Isaac, not Ishmael being sacrificed. (Gen. 22:1-18) Abraham knew that God would fulfill his word through Isaac, even if it meant raising him from the dead (Hebrews 11:17-19). It was a test of Abraham's faith, not because God didn't know he would be faithful, but to show the precedent of what He was going to do in respects to himself. In His case, he did not hold back from sacrificing His son to provide the ransom from sin and death for imperfect humans.

This type of request was never made again in the scriptures, showing that it served its purpose...it does not show that God is unloving and wants parents to sacrifice their children. When the Israelites were sacrificing their children to false gods, He called it "a thing that I had not commanded and that had not come up into my heart" (Jeremiah 7:31) He certainly does not ask anyone to do it today any more than He did then.

For the ignorant persons out there that said GOD would never ask that.............obviously you believe in something you have NO idea about. If you want to believe in something, atleast UNDERSTAND it 1st. The reason you believe blindly is the exact reason that the major religions of the world have been so successful..............because most of the world believes what they are told, with little if no investigation!

The earth has been here for millions of years, why is it that only 2000 yrs ago that GOD was finally heard from???? Doesn't that seem odd to you???? Apparently not, because you believe what your parents have taught you..........which they too learned from blind ignorance.

This question should be put in a forum, not on yahoo answers, because there are so many errors in the bible it borders on stupidity! We could talk on this for days and days

This was a test of Abraham's love for God. Abe knew God would not allow him to do it and the bible clearly acknowledges this fact. I would have to say no to your question. The reason being is because the one and only true God of the universe and His Son Jesus Christ would not ask me to. Jesus (Gods Son) already done it. Peace

Heavens no,I mean what's to assure you that it is actually GOD talking when it could be a evil spirit talking disguise as GOD.I mean look at all these terrorists and criminal who claims that they are doing GOD'S will because they claim to have heard ''GOD'' talk to them when in turn it was a evil and demonic spirit in disguise. Most of the stuff like sacrificing(human and animal) which satanists do today came from very early christianity. The point is GOD would never tell a person to harm a next person because he believe that all life is very precious.

It was not Ishmael. It was Isaac. And I would do what God (YHWH) told me to do. (not allah)
But, Jesus was sacrificed to end all sacrifices, so there is no need for that anymore. The price has been paid in full!!! Haleluia to the Lamb of God!!!

Do you have a different Bible? Because the one I grew up with says God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, not Ishmael.

No, I would not sacrifice my child because God said, "Do this to prove you believe in me and are willing to obey me." That's just stupid, and it's murder. The Bible does have some very specific things to say on the subject of murder, as I recall.

Bible stories like this are part of the reason I don't go to church anymore.

Actually it was Isaac that God told Abraham to sacrifice, not Ishmael. Ishmael and his mother were banished, because of Sarah's jealousy.

In this day and age if God commanded it I would.

He listened to the voice inside his head, and killed his own son. Im sorry, but theres no way i would do that, even if god looked me right in the eyes and told me to do so. We can think alot of things are told to us by god, but most of the time its just us wanting these things to be messages from him.
