I am getting back in the Army(hopefully)after getting out 2 years ago for a medical discharge for what was thought to be Asthma(I recently took a Pulmanary Functions Test and I passed it, and the results were 100% normal)...I am now waiting on the Army doctors at MEPS to give the ok based on the results(good chance they will)but I need to know if I should stick with my old MOS, which was 13B, or go for a non-combat MOS that will lessen my chances of deployment. If I stick with being a 13B, I want to know what posts are good, and especially don't get deployed often...I was stationed at Fort Drum, and I do not want to go back there...too cold...lol...I am thinking about Hawaii, but I know that is a long shot...so where should I go if I want to stay in the US for a while?

Oh yeah I forgot to mention....I was considering Fort Riley, KS(I am currently living in KS)but a friend of mine says to stay away from Fort Riley cause it is a base with a high rate of deployment...

I'm retired Army, but I work with some Topographic Analyst (21U) now. Seems like a good MOS, has application on the outside.

Regardless, deploying will probably happen where ever you're stationed...

I would say first off, to look long term. Is being an artillery specialist what you really want to do? Do you want to write, or become a draftsman, or something like that? Then by all means re-class. I realized after 20 that a 12B is not marketable in the outside world, unless you want to be a GS employee.

Every post I have been to, you make the best of it. I really enjoyed Alaska, Germany and Korea.

If you want to not get deployed, well, theres not too much you can do there, unless you find a job to sit at a FOB and veg out, but in time everyone is going to get deployed, one way or another!

Good luck with the Army MEPS Doctors. Since you were already discharged for having asthma, they are probably going to find your Pulmonary Functions Test a little suspect. Did you do the test through a Military Doctor or Private? Most likely they will require you to do a similar test through a Military Doctor, or at least an approved one of their choosing.

If you're that concerned about deployment or the weather, , do the army a favor and don't go back in. It isn't fair to those who accept it as part of being in the army,
It sounds like you want all the benefits but none of the dirty work.

Sweetheart, at this point in time, there is not much you can do to avoid overseas deployment.

And ya'll have GOT to use civilian words instead of military acronyms! My son is in the Army so I am familiar with more but you need to let folks know that MOS is another word for job and what a 13B is.

I wonder why you would want to go back to the army if you're afraid that you'll be posted somewhere which doesn't suit you. Either you're in the army (and follow the orders) or you're not.
