I don't agree with that.. but I think takign your license away for life for first offense would work. People need to know that it takes way less alcohol then people realize for you to be over the legal limit (.1) You can feel just a slight "buzz" and be over limit! It only took me two drinks and I was .1.

Take a look at the penalties in other countries.....

Hasn't the death penalty been issued since the beginning of man? Was there ever a period in time when there was no crime?

What does this say? It says that the death penalty does not stop people from commiting crimes. People do not commit crimes with the intent of getting caught. People commit crimes because they THINK they're going to get away with the crime! They don't think about the consequences, so it doesn't matter how extreme the punishment is. They would still drive drunk, and HOPE they don't get caught. The death penalty would only serve as a form of revenge.

I can't believe people who have no problem killing people think they have the right to suggest good moral living.

DWI doesn't warrant the death penalty. What we need are tougher laws and sentences. For example, in NY if you are convicted of DWI (which is a misdemeanor) - you only have your license suspended for 6-months, you are required to pay a fine and attend classes. If it's driving while impaired (which is only a violation it's a 3-month suspension).

The minimum period should be a 1-year revocation + a heavy fine and attending classes. If there's a 2nd conviction in 10 years (which in NY makes it a felony) there should be a 3-year revocation and jail time.

If there are more than 2 DWI convictions and you get caught again, you should lose your license privileges forever. I know of 1 individual in the Bronx who had 6, that's right 6 previous DWI convictions in his lifetime. He was acquitted on his 7th DWI charge simply because the DA's Office didn't have the arresting officer's partner testify and the jury thought they were trying to hide something.

I think instead of raising taxes on cigarettes they should on alcohol. Cig prices jump sky high all the time. I am pretty sure smoking and driving wont kill the family of four out on a drive. Death penalty no. How about no license ever again.

I think a judge in Texas has it right. Take the car, not the license. They can drive a car without a license, but they can't use the license without the car. Simple. When the banks, family and friends finally realize he won't stop he can take a cab or the bus. Or like the ancient drunks did, WALK!

A bit too harsh. There license should be suspended immediately and the suspension years is determined by the amount of the the person has been caught DUI.

Death would be too harsh but if you held their car in the impound yard until trial and then, if they were found guilty, crushed it up into a cube and put it beside the highway so that others could see Justice being done as a deterrent I think DUIs would begin to trail off....

i think of the age policies are especially plenty very nicely. no count what the age is there'll be irresponsible people who circulate on binges or get at the back of a wheel whilst they might desire to no longer. this is rather greater approximately adulthood yet no person matures thae comparable so i think of 21 is a sturdy age as any. the only qualm I even have approximately this is to do with the army. while you're sufficiently old to die on your usa you're sufficiently old to drink a lager. So I say enable it circulate lower back to allowing them to drink some beer at the same time as on base!!!

Can't even get THAT kind of reaction in response to mass murder. So you might as well ask if turning them into a goat would be a good way to deter drunk driving.

Wow.... I have to tell you that is extremely over the top.

And we can't even get the death penalty to be enforced for decades on convicted child murders.

And, no... it would not make people be too afraid. Hell, they still kidnap, rape and kill people and are not afraid of the death penalty.

There were over 14,000 murders in the US last year. There was hardly a measurable fraction of executions.

I think that you are a little extreme there.

However, a friend of mine FINALLY went to jail after his 5th offense, was sentenced to 3 years, and was out in 14 months.

He is waiting for sentencing on his 6th.

We are not punishing DUIs hard enough. I can see a first offense not being TOO harsh. 90 days mandatory sounds good to me.

Second and subsequent offenses should be punished exponentially, though, and if a wreck/death is involved, it is 2nd degree murder in my opinion.
