I am 26 and I am not sure of the career path I want to take. I am currently a teacher but I don't feel fulfilled at all. I am really unhappy going to work in the morning. I don't have my certification yet, but I don't even know if I want it. I wanted to be a school psychologist when I graduated with my B.A. degree in psychology but I just don't know if that is what I really want to do.........Sometimes I just feel lost and unsure.............like I just want to scrap it all and start over again. I see other women my age and they are so sure of themselves. They know where they are headed career wise. They have "it" together. I don't. I still live with my mom. Am I too old for this?

If you feel unhappy in your current position, start going back to school yourself and dont forget that the school system pays you for getting an advanced degree. A school counselor can get by with a masters degree, a school psychologist needs a Phd. Good Luck.

I'm almost 40 and feel the same way. If you're too old at 26, what the heck am I?

Most people feel that way from time to time. There's SOMETHING else you want to be doing, but you don't know what it is yet. There's a whole self help industry out there aimed at people who feel like that. Dr. Wayne Dyer is quite good, to name a fave of mine. So is Alan Watts.

But you have a BA in Psychology, so I think I know what will speak to you. Get a copy of Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment by Tal Ben-Shahar. I think it'll help you get a handle on a few things.

But mostly DON'T WORRY. We all feel that way sometimes. The point is we can get through it.

Hi... you are really very young and have time to make up your mind about what you really want to do...

Perhaps keep a journal or write down some things which you'd like to do as a career, places you'd like to live, some goals (like buying a car or home, or saving money)...

You may also need some diversions in your life -- join a gym, take some sort of random class, like karate or art. Fill in your spare time a little, and just let your mind wander.

There are probably a variety of things you can do with your degree, and taking some time to explore your options is quite OK.

If you are having issues with self-esteem, there are many good websites online for help with that issue, too. Consider doing a Yahoo search for SELF-ESTEEM SELF-HELP for lots of info.

and take care of yourself! (i don't think you are too old to be living with your mom, if the arrangement is working well for both of you).

I'm 34, and up until a few years ago, I was feeling much the same way. I decided that I had to do what was going to make me happy. Life is much too short.

You need to have some time with yourself , get honest, and make some decisions.

What do you want to do?

Don't worry about making everyone else happy. (I know it's easier said than done.)

Make YOURSELF happy. When people see how content you are, they will be happy for you. Trust me.

A teacher is a noble profession. There are many areas to use your talents. My 27 year old daughter teaches hearing impaired kids and loves it. Maybe you haven't found the right avenue to use your skills. If you find you still don't want to teach, then I agree with petra, go back to school and add to your resume'. Hang in there!

No, you are never to old to feel that way.
Some people spend their whole life searching.
You should, however, try living on your own. This will change a lot of things.
Also, keep your education going by sampling classes at your local community college.
