Before you panic, stop listening to all of the scare mongering that the press and other people tell you. remember that MRSA is a variation af a common bacteria that lives on over a third of the worlds population. Before you start panicking about your childs teacher infection him , remember that on average, 1 out of every family of 5 has MRSA. You may have it as part of your natural bacteria. By all means be carefull with your son, make sure he keeps all cuts and open wouds clean, but have some perspective. Bacteria needs to be given a chance to infect someone, and this is NOT a bacteria which can spread like the cold or flu. He will be fine. Unless he is immunocompromised in some way , the chances of him becoming ill are very extreme to say the least. .....

Anyone w/ MRSA should be quarantined and given the antibiotics necessary to kill the infection, which are usually only given IN hospitals, since they're pretty harsh antibiotics.

In any situation if MRSA is cultured from a patient, certain, protocols are observed, like gloving and gowning, to prevent the spread to other patients while caring for the one who's got the infection. So yes, your 3 y/o son, could be infected, depending on the situation.

YES! Staph is VERY contagious, and very hard to get rid of! I would keep my child away....and even after, I would approach the person who had staph..and make sure they sterilized their home, or daycare center..wherever your child is staying. Staph can live on surfaces for a while...counters, clothes, furniture. This is a cause for major concern!

Most likely, but it depends on how long they have had the staph infection. If they have had it about 5 to 7 days already, probably not. If it's sooner than that though, you shouldn't let leave your child under their care.

It depends on where the infection is. If it is in her urine probably not but if it is in her nose or an open wound or her sputum etc and she is coughing then yes. Call your states day care licensing agency to report this and get their input on whether she needs to close the daycare till the infection is cleared or not. I would think that your state must have some regulations regarding this.

OMG!! YES!!! Get your child out of there until the provider has seen a doctor and has learned how to keep it under control. MRSA is extremely contagious. And in some people it can be deadly. MRSA is a very scary thing. There is no cure and it becomes a life long disease. With special care it can be controlled but that in itself takes time to learn. It used to be called a homeless disease but now it is afflicting people of all status. I feel for the provider and am glad to know that they shared that information with you. It wasn't anything they did that caused it. It just happened to them. They came in contact with a carrier and caught it. Please be careful and tell your pediatrician about the contact with MRSA and keep a good eye on your child.

My daughter developed cellulitis from MSRA. She's allergic to penicillin and the infection went systemic (103 fever), and she had to be admitted to the hospital for 5 days to get it under control. It is HIGHLY contagious!!!

How do you know what that person is infected with, or even if he/she is infected? That information is confidential, and if you've gone snooping, you're criminally liable.

Yes absoluterly . They have outbreak "scares" in hospitals . Kids can catch it from school . This is serious. She need to leave and the daycare sterilized. Everychild should be checked for symptoms.

I would think so. I would also ask your pediatrician right now, before your bring your child over. A nurse at the practice could answer that.
