I have moved a lot in my youth & I never ever asked friends or family to help me I always hired movers it is less stressfull for all around....... If I were you I would just decline & either tell them the truth, or make your self busy on that day.
good luck

U ask the friends if they'd mind helping out if they don't want to then hire the professionals. If they do end up helping I'd offer them something not neccessarily $$ but maybe a home cooked meal or drinks at a local pub/ bar. something of that nature. If they are good friends then they would consider it as a favor and will come to u later for u to honor a favor from them when they need it! good luck!

While it is a nice thing for you to offer, it would be rude. In my opinion, unless someone has helped you in the past, you are not obligated to help if you don't want to. Your friends hope you will, but will not be mad if you don't. So I would just say you can't help. If you really wanted to do something, you could bring by food while you're running errands. This way, you're contributing, but not all day, and not physical labor.

Yes. Friends helping to move is supposed to be fun.For young people of sound health that aren't so full of themselves, providing personal services to those one cares about can make one feel very good.
If that isn't your idea of fun, just refuse to help in a straightforward fashion. Keep in mind that if you lose all your money and get sick, you can still call your friends to bring you a glass of water or pick up your prescriptions. It's better if they say yes or no rather than offer you $40 to hire someone to do it.
If you want to give money, simply write a check as a housewarming present, not in lieu of helping them move.

The better way to repay is to "FEED THEM"!:) Find out if the movers like pizza, fried chicken, subs, tacos, and/or any other food that can be ordered to feed them. Paper plates, napkins, Styrofoam cups, plastic silverware, and a big cooler full of the things they like to drink. For desert pre-made ice cream cones from the grocery store, and "EVERYBODY SITS DOWN TO RELAX WHEN YOU ALL ARE DONE!:)

Um yeah I think so. I mean, isn't that what friends are for? To help each other out? Besides, whenever I've helped people move, they have always returned the offer. As well, they have always bought us dinner, like ordered pizza, and drinks for us.

No, in fact, you are neither obligated to help with your physical strenght, nor with money for your friend to hire someone else.
Just tell your friend you are sorry, but you won't be able to help "for personal reasons".
If you feel like being generous, you can offer the money, that shouldn't offend anyone!!

If you don't want to don't, but instead of $$
offer to buy pizza's and beer for those that do help... I think that would be nice. and the guy asking for your help would think it is pretty cool of you.
But when you move? do you want your friends to help you? or do you want to pay movers??
I wouldn't think they would offer to pay for your movers.

Yes, a little. Just say no. You aren't obligated to help him with his move, except out of friendship. And it's a bit insulting to offer him money, as if he can't afford it if he wanted to.
