It probably only seems weird to you because you've been raised in a society that closely associates God with maleness (the Christian Bible often refering to God as "Father"). In some other cultures, it's perfectly natural for there to be a female god. In fact, you probably do have some notion of a goddess, if you've ever sat and thought about the term "Mother Nature."
What does it matter, really, whether your god is a male or a female or non-gendered? Is it really so important that you know the sex of the entity you are praying to? Pray whatever way makes you feel better, because that's all that prayer really is: a way to comfort yourself and feel taken care of.

There were plenty of Gods worshipped by the greeks and romans that were women. So I suppose it is possible that God is a woman and that would explain allot, but I like to think of God as a gender neutral spiritual being. God created man and woman in his likeness, so does that mean that he looks like both. The bible says that God is male, but it has been translated from several different languages and it was written by a man so that might explain why.

I'm speaking from a Christian perspective. Others will have to speak for others.
God is not a woman. God is also not a man. Gender is a human attribute, and as such is transcended by God. However, because our minds are limited and we often find it hard to conceive of a being without gender, we imagine God as being male or female. And that is fine. In Christian theology, we speak of "God the Father", and that's a true label, but it's a bit misleading, since God's "fatherhood" isn't like human fatherhood (for example,
Myself, sometimes I imagine God as male when praying, and sometimes as female.

They have to back up what they are saying, by quoting scriptures and authorities. People are accustomed to say thing according to their imagination and concoctions.
According to the Vidic scriptures[the most ancient and genuine authoritative scriptures] God is male. Srila Prabhupada explain this point in this way:
The living entities, all of us, are mentioned as Prakriti in the Bhagavat Gita and in Sanskrit Prakriti means femine object. The Lord is always described as the Parama Purusha or the Supreme Male Personality. As such the affection between the Lord and the living entities are of exactly like the male and the female. Therefore the word Love between Godhead and the living entities is quite appropriate. And this is the tangible proof that God is male.

In order to understand God, we call IT he or she, give it a beard, and think of it as being human. This is how our brains work. We could not understand God in the abstract, without some way of relating IT to something we already know and understand.
As such, any comparison that helps you understand what God is like [and not like] is just fine. We can say God is like a monkey in some ways, the LORD is my shepherd, God is a river, God is a rock, God is an ancient liberal Jewish carpenter. And yes, God is a woman. The Bible is riddled with verses about how God gave birth to the world and to us, God nurtures us, cares for us.
Ultimately none of these are accurate - God is infinite and you are working with a finite brain and a finite language.

Originally God was considered feminine, then Christ died and 200 years later the bible was written with God being male and females were made to be subservient, almost slaves! Go figure! I believe God to be multi-faceted and could be either male or female depending on what we need and what God is doing at the time!

If god exists in the Judeo/Christian sense then I would imagine that He/She/It could be anything you want it to be. Belief is a very personal thing after all.
...and why does it seem to be weird to have a lady god? do you think a woman wouldn't do as good a job of running the universe?

I believe that the ultimate Divine source is incomprehensible in human terms, but that human beings project human forms onto it in order to relate to it and connect with it. Therefore, since human beings generally come in two sexes, both Gods and Goddesses have been worshipped throughout human history.
Some people connect very powerfully with a female version of the Divine. Others do not. I'm one of the ones who does, but I'd never presume to tell someone else that they had to worship in the same way.

In Islam it is forbidden to think God as a human. You should not think god as a being he created.
