I heard about a church that had the following t-shirts:
On the front, it says "I Upped My Contribution."
And on the back, it says "Up Yours!"
I thought it was hysterical, but I'm not a church-goer and I was wondering how those of you who attend church would feel about that.

I belong to the Ethical Society of St. Louis, and you'd be amazed how many people come to Sunday platform (meetings) in jeans and tee shirts. However, I think most of the members would consider this in poor taste.
But you would also be surprised what they do NOT consider in poor taste. I wore my Flying Spaghetti Monster shirt one time. You know, the one that mocks the Sistine Chapel's Creation scene? Several people found it amusing, and no one commented that it was in poor taste.

Back part is biblical; Law is what's behind, blowin smoke up yours if you let it. Front part is non biblical, also churchy law; but law should not be up front, as that's where grace is. So then it's the same old law law you find in and out of churches.
I guess they haven't read where it says ye are not under the law, but under grace, and thrice; The third time with clarity: ye are not under the law, but under grace, if led of the Spirit. For God is a Spirit, not a Ghost; Alive, not Dead. Somebody ought to tell them about Galatians 5:4, which is notably written "unto the churches", and for clarity bewitched churches.
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

No, besides there are better ways to encourage giving. The rude connotation is still rude... but does tickle my dark humour funnybone. We are called to give what we can and the right hand should not know what the left is doing that includes telling the world your business. So give your tithe and your offerings and honour God without trumpeting your achievements. The rewards are eternal that way.

I don't attend a church. I'm atheist and I'm a little put off by public indiscretions like "Up yours" implies. There is no need for that in the public arena. I tend to stick to the examples set by the national TV broadcasters; if they wouldn't allow it in an ad, I won't either. (Although I do take a few liberties here. Please click the following links.)

Since Jesus is the head of the Churches, I wonder if he would wear one of those T-shirts.

I think it is hilarious, but what kind of church would do that?
I think if you give to a church it should be done privately, I don't like that whole collection plate business, I think it is in poor taste.

I really don't care either way. That t-shirt is used as an attention getting device for those people who don't have enough courage to stand up for what *they* believe in. Instead they make a mockery of others' beliefs so the attention is taken off of themselves for a change.
