Where have I been? I've been a trainer for quite a few years. Not barking is something that needs to be trained into a dog from a very young age. An electric collar is a HUMANE way to stop the barking when conventional methods fail.. the dog usually figures out not to bark very quickly.

Personally, I feel an electric collar to be MORE humane than a citronella collar or than de-barking or re-homing the dog (which will not cure the barking and may end up with the dog in a shelter or dead).

Before you start lecturing people on what's inhumane, perhaps you need to do some research into the alternatives... then when they don't work, evaluate what is best for the dog and the owner.

You can't equate the spaying/neutering of pets with aborting a human youngster. When you abort a human youngster, you're killing a human lifestyles that has already been created. When you eliminate the reproductive organs of an animal you're stopping it from ever conceiving, for that reason no longer having undesirable kittens and dogs left to starve or being mistreated. You're fairly attaining right here, seeking to evaluate those two problems. Get truly!

When used correctly a bark collar is no more inhumane than any other kind of training. It is a lot more humane than dumping the dog at the shelter for barking too much and it is a lot better than yelling at the dog all the time. They learn very quickly with bark collars and don't even need them for long. It is effective, not painful (I have done it to myself) and a humane way of training a dog.
Quit giving your friend a hard time about it when she is doing better than most people.

Have you ever watched Animal Planet? Do you watch about the people who work for ASPCA? If you did, then you would see why people should have their animals spayed or neutered. It is more inhuman to allow an animal to have babies and no one can afford to feed them, give them the proper vet care, and many dogs and feral cats have to fend for themselves if someone decides they no longer want the animal. That is cruel and inhuman. try getting a lesson in why these things should be done. As far as the collar, I haven't got a clue as to what you're trying to say. Leave your friend alone. She is doing the right thing. And please, I hope you never own a pet because it's sounds like you just might let it have all the babies it wants or doesn't want. You see, animals go into heat and it is a natural thing for them to mate so it isn't their fault. It is the fault of the owner who doesn't care. So, before you ever get a dog or cat. please research on spaying and neutering.

I had read into these out of curiosity.

some administer a spray after the dog barks other a small amount of electricity.

You can program how many barks he is allowed before the collar does its deed.

With the electricity, you can also program how many jolts the poor hound get too.

I didn't realize this stuff could be put on the market. I know also that in some areas, your dog can be taken from you if too many people complain of the barking.

some people are at their wits end who buy these things. I think it is up to the owner to decifer how to administer this but I am unsure of how much voltage is legal to sell in these collars too.

However, on the positive note, if it irritates the dog that much then maybe he will stop.

A bark collar when used correctly IS humane. It is also a very good alternative to getting rid of your dog because of barking or slicing your dog's vocal cords, now isn't it??
Stop bagging on your friend, she could have tossed Mr. Barksalot into a shelter, but instead she did the responsible thing and took accountability for it and got the dog a solution to the problem.

I'm even more confused....and i thought i talked gibberish, some times. sorry its just hard to understand.

when it comes down to it if the dog won't stop barking and the owners have gotten warnings of this...the dog could be put down or go to the shelter for such a thing then the no bark collar is HUMANE. as any other viewed 'harsh' training tool, if used correct.
I have never used one, i would if i had to.

You know whats inhumane? NOT training your dog!

As is the same thing with spaying and neutering, I advise people to think about what they do before they do it. I do not use these collars on my dogs because I don't trust that I would do it in a way that would minimize the dog's discomfort, BUT I acknowledge that they'd be a good training tool when used right. I just haven't talked to someone who can teach me to use one of these collars, and I'm not going to "figure it out" myself. I've used a method I like to think of as "my dog is barking to alert me to something, I will go see then tell her I saw it if she keeps barking." It works well for my girls, if not all of them.

As much as we love animals, we can't be there to scream at everyone who wants to put shock collars on puppies.

I must ask, though... if you think it's inhumane, what have YOU said to your friend about this? Have you suggested that your friend take your dog to training? And as you see, many of the "pro animal people" are for the humane usage of training tools.

Good luck to you and your friend.

Dogs are not human fool.that's why some have to learn by methods some may think are harsh.
i personally have never used a no-bark collar nor will I ever.
If my dogs are barking there's a reason for it and I'm not that lazy or stupid to get off my tail end and go see what the problem is.Most often it's simply that they're ready to come inside where they can be close to us.
And if your friend would stop being lazy and stupid then there'd be no need for him/her to put a no-bark collar on that dog either.

well if it is "non dog" non meaning to be without, that would mean 'without dog',so your friend bought a collar with no dog and a barking collar?
Why would anyone want a collar that barks?
Don't be mad,my answer/question makes more sense grammatically than your question...lol
