yes, but they take that as an offence. So say it as often as you can.

one man's faith is another man's fact.

Whilst Atheism is just the belief there is no god (cannot be proven nor disproven) budhists can be atheist, and there are certain crossovers. So in the strict sense, it can be argued that it is not. HOWEVER, any group of like minded individuals who live their life in a similar faith (a rejection of gods), put 'atheist' in the religion census form, can be easily argued that they are indeed, a religion.

Atheism is a religious standpoint, has its own leaders and representatives, its own belief system. So whilst technically a 'school of thought' by the atheist's own admission, a religion is just that, a ''school of thought' and no different to theirs, unless there is a god, in that case the atheist is giving a tacit admission that a god makes a religion...

Nope. Just like being a Theist is not a religion.

It is simply a statement of belief or lack of belief.

However, an atheist could belong to a religion. There are atheistic religions like the Raelians or Buddhism.

Well, I was going to respond that there's no church of atheism, but I decided to check on that, just in case, and apparently there is. So maybe for some people it is a religion. But I think for most people, its simply that they don't believe that there's a God floating around making stuff happen. That's not religion, that's the lack of religion.

Isn't it funny how the atheists, who would know after all, keep saying "No, it's not a religion," but the religious people keep saying "Yes, it is! Yes it is!"

No. Atheism is the lack of a belief in God. There is no dogma or doctrine associated with it, the way there is with religion.

To put is another way, a person can believe in God without practicing any particular religion.

No. Atheism is defined as the total lack of religious beliefs. There are no rules to follow or specific ways to behave.
It's like how black is not actually defined as a colour, but rather the absence of colour.

Definitely, and I have proof.

Harvard has a Humanist Chaplaincy, and San Diego has a Humanist church. Humanist is a code word for Atheist.

Yes, atheism itself is indeed a belief system, confidence in a theory of knowledge, which (militant branch) asserts God does not exist, but which non-existence they cannot prove nor negate the abundant evidence to the contrary. .

Atheism further demonstrates it is like what it condemns by it's religious fervor, present day "evangelists," and communistic — type desire to control children's minds (presently, many atheists think it “reasonable” to remove children from Christian/creationist homes).

And as a result , atheism tends to be like other false religions, and generally fosters societies given to personality cults (N. Korea, etc.) that are like religious cults. Auschwitz, the gulag and the killing fields are examples of what happens when human beings reject Biblical Christianity (Germany and Russia overall did long before Nazism and Communism took hold). And as atheism has no transcendent moral authority, except what they see as "reasonable", thus atheism's legacy is largely men like Stalin Mao, and Pol Pot, who operated out of the same objectively baseless morality (whatever you perceive as "reasonable) and has shed more blood the last century than all theistic belief systems combined (though modern weapons helped).

In addition, atheism seldom makes any real distinction between Biblical Christianity, versus it's aberrant (RC, etc.( forms), or other religions, and ignores or dismisses the abundant and ongoing positive empirical proofs of His reality. Which is that ALL those who genuinely turn in their hearts to the LORD Jesus from sin, and cast all their faith in Him who died for their sins and rose again to save them, realize effects that correspond to the claims of Object of their faith, and are contingent upon obedience Him. Praise the Lord!

By definition no.

I truly have the feeling that there are people who simply refuse to understand such a simple word and actively try to redefine it.

Outraged, Mastermind, Josh,
listen for just a moment please. The word literally means "without theism" there is no explicit or implicit claim of knowing there is no god. It is not a "a system of beliefs" because there are no beliefs. It is being without belief.
