i do find this one aspect of the lds religion interesting, prophets and apostles.

1 Cor. 12: 28 God hath set some in the church . . . prophets.
Eph. 4: 11 he gave some, apostles, and some prophets.
Eph. 2: 20 built upon . . . apostles and prophets.
Eph. 3: 5 revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets.
Eph. 4: 11 he gave some, apostles, and some prophets.

also many say there were no more prophets after Christ

but what about Agabus, Judas and Silas?

Acts 13: 1
1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

Acts 15: 32-33
32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.
33 And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.

what about john the revelator?

Well there are..
All of the gifts listed are still active in the church today.
Just because nobody runs around yelling from the housetops that they are a Prophet, or Apostle, doesn't mean that they aren't here..
The office of a New Testament Prophet is different from the Old Testament, but the gift is still there.
The Apostle today has not physically seen Jesus like the original 12, but the term Apostle is a leader sent to plant churches and new works.. That is what the original 12 Apostles did..
Many that we call Missionaries today are really Apostles. We really don't see the word Missionary or mission in the Bible..

Oh, you are mistaken!

If you read the Book of Acts, you will see that there were plenty of prophets around after the Ascension of Jesus Christ.

What you might be referring to are the prophets who cause great physical things happen. Because the New Testament is full of things that were revealed after the Ascension. If you miss the parts about Paul raising a slumbering person who fell from a top floor during a sermon, I guess I can see your point.

The reason why you are not seeing so much of that kind of thing now may lie in many reasons. The first is that God doesn't want everybody. He keeps the proof of Himself for those who trust Him. Another one is that people who tend to work for God in miraculous ways tend to stay low profile, they don't want everyone knowing what they do, but God only.

All revelation in respect to our salvation history has been fulfilled in Christ. However over time through prayer and discernment the Church has gone further into the truth which it had already received to better explain a truth.
Every one has the ability to be prophetic in that one could recognize a need and thus fulfilling that need such as a homeless person needing a coat

Good question. The scriptures clearly show that God reveals His word through prophets, and that prophets are in the scriptural account before, during, and after Christ's mortal ministry.
