I had one come regular at night and eat the dry dog food from one of those metal feeders. Once they have a regular food source they will be back. The one I had around, would sometimes get trapped inside the feeder and in the morning I hear it bumping around. I would turn the feeder on the side and open the top door, later the opossum be gone, but, it was back again that night.

Foods preferred by opossums are animal matter, mainly insects or carrion. Opossums also eat considerable amounts of vegetable matter, especially fruits and grains. Opossums living near people may visit compost piles, garbage cans, or food dishes intended for dogs, cats, and other pets.
