Sorry to put this question to you in the TV section but it was the closest section I could find in the entire list to household appliances.
Does anyone know if, in the UK, London, (1) replacing a faulty thermostat in a fridge is expensive ! Our fridge is not new but it is only a couple of years old and it is a pity to throw it away just because of that. --- And...
(2) is it likely to be the thermostat or anything simpler I could do myself to cure the problem ?!
The fridge's motor is ON 24 hours a day and never cuts out.
It did not do that a couple of months ago.

It might not just be the thermostat, it could also be that the gas has leaked, this will keep the motor running as well. If it is the thermostat it means a new one and the gas will probably need refilled. Quite costly. Check it out!!! It may be cheaper to buy a middle price fridge instead.

I will defer to those who live in the UK but here in the US it may be like $50 to $80 for the part (not sure since I now have a repair contract on such things) and the fridge itself costs $350 or more.

You might try posting in the Maintenance & Repair and the DIY sub-forums of the House & Garden forum for both more reader interest and more actual expertise than you will find here, in TV electronics.
