what does the effect of marmite have on cats, or what is the effect/benefit to cats please ?

howdy, i went to my local pet shop this morning to get sum input on me Ma's cat(Mr.Tibbs) he has a flea infestation, been to the vets few days ago he had two injections(in site's where fleas hang out) steriods like cats antihistamine yes? Now its like 24 hours b4 the lil hitchickers get the hell orf their free ride huh? then when the furry boy goes home and i debug my flat i understand no guarrantee it will kill all fleas/larvae etc but as they dont do human blood and the host wont be around they will starve and die yes ? wot effect or benefit does marmite have on cats ? as the chap in pet store told me but ive clean 4got. In anticipation for anyones answers out there. Cheers

I've been searching my house for a book that I've got about a cat that would only eat marmite sandwiches. All that I remember was that this diet although odd, wasn't that dreadful, so until I find the book, I suppose that marmite's OK. I will keep hunting for the book though, because it was so funny.

Effect of marmite? P*ss the cat off? Other than that, nothing!

Don't buy store bought products. Your vet should really have told you this - stores aren't licensed to sell the right drugs, so you can NOT expect them to work. Why on Earth your vet didn't give you some treatment I don't know. You need Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate, they're all good.

Fleas do bite humans. They also lay eggs which can lay dormant in your house for as long as necessary, and very few sprays kill them. Get a spray from a vets and treat your house with it, then vacuum the next day and repeat the process around 10 days later, once the eggs have hatched. If you use a proper veterinary treament on your animal, he will be covered, but you must treat the house too. Flea populations don't just die off from waiting.

Marmite as in the spead!? again if you could get your cat to eat it, it may give him the runs, it also has a high salt content, theres not must food goodness in it really, i dont know what its got to do with fleas!

Havnt heard of Marmite being used/ given as a flea treatment before!

I'm not sure whether or not you could get a cat to eat Marmite!
I can tell you why he may of suggested it though. Marmite is full of B vitamins which change the way sweat smells. Although you can't smell the difference yourself, it makes your smell intolerable to insects like midges and mosquitos so you don't get bitten as much. I'm not sure if this works on fleas though!

I wish you would tell us exactly what marmite is. I read a lot of English mysteries and have heard of it. I got the impression that it something sweet you put on toast. In which case it's not a good "food" for your cat. You need to know what's in it before deciding to feed it to your cat. If it is meat that humans eat it is also not good for your cat as any human cooked meat is deficient in taurine which is essential for a cat.

I am hear to tell you that fleas love human blood as much as a cat's or dog's.
