You have selected a great time to start searching for college scholarships! I once read that the best approach to locating a college scholarship is utilizing several different approaches. I recommend applying for any scholarship no matter the amount because it all adds up. I will include several different free approaches to locate tuition money for college.

First, in January or early February, complete the FAFSA form as soon as your parents have completed their federal income tax form. However, this must be completed before the college's financial aid deadline to get the most help. Even if you think your family made too much money, there is help out there. My brother got help to get his MBA degree while working full time. It will qualify you for the Pell Grant (if your EFC score is below 4100 or so), work study program, need based scholarships from the school itself, and student loans. They use a percentage formula of your parents' income and savings along with your income and savings; also includes family size and how many attending college. This needs to be completed every year until you graduate from college.

Second, your high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships and state grants available to college students. These are typically the easiest to get compared to nationally based scholarship programs.

Third, the local public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even located on the web.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search engines. You complete a form, and they will locate scholarships matching your profile. It is pretty easy to use. There is a scholarship for almost anything including wearing duct tape to the prom.

Good luck!

The state has a few programs that you might want to look into that seem promising.

Arkansas Academic Challenge scholarship
http://acs.adhe.edu/

This scholarship yields up to $3500 annually. The webpage above outlines the requirements for that program. Since you are a senior...you have some time to ensure that you qualify.

Depending on how good you are here is another one to look into :

Governor's Scholarship Program
http://www.arkansasgovernorsscholarship.com/

This one pays up to $4000 annually. The requirements for testing scores is much higher and gpa plays a major role in it as well.

Higher Education Opportunities Grant (state grant)
www.fafsa.ed.gov

This one provides $500 (part time) and $1000 (full time) based on your financial need. Once you complete the fafsa...which you will need anyway to apply for federal grants and student loans you will automatically apply for the state grant.

Hopefully this helps you out. Good time to start thinking about going to college and preparing!

Good luck!

Vince M said everything I was going to say. I must also reiterate: There are very few sports scholarships available. Even fewer are football scholarships.
