As salaamu 'alaikym, my friend.

Insha'Allah, Great Britain has a very lax immagration policy and the same can be said for how they deal with persons who seek polictical asylum.
The first was caused by England's past history of colonization. When England colonized an already existing peoples so as to declare them British subjects, it necessarily followed that those subjects must be free to travel through the "empire" and an important part of that empire is England.
Those newly Anglicized "citizens" often chose to go to England in pursuit of higher education and employment opportunitues.
Now , many former "subjects" are still traveling to England as they still seek the benefits of higher education, employment opportunities as well as a common sense of safety which has been denied them in their native lands due in no small part to the political upheavels caused by England and her allies (primarily the United States).
Although England accepted them, they have also marginalized them. These "non-Brits", as I have heard them referred to, face a higher rate of unemployment and fewer educational opportunities than the "true Brits" (another term I have heard used). Such economic disparities often lead to anger and frustration by those persons, espeically the young of said group, who must endure the same.

For those already in the U.K., the government of the same would do well to provide more educational and empolyment opportunities, as well as assisting with housing, medical needs and the same. A greater sense of cultural diversity and understanding also needs to be promoted as fewer person would "fear" that with which they have become familiar.

It would also be in the best interest of the U.K. to assist the peoples in the lands where these "non-Brits" came from again so as to promote more educational opportunities and greater employment opportunities. Such will raise the standard of living of these countries and might well lead to them becoming economic partners with the U.K. (i.e., buying products produced in the U.K. and selling their own products back to the U.K.) in a sipirit of mutual cooperation and interdependence.

With the current economic globablization occurring countries have a choice to make as to whether be open to all person or to retreat into isolationism. Either choice will require some re-adjustment by the current populace. Acceptance and mutual cooperation creates more opportunities for all persons involved however, due to racial bias, fear and outright hatred, some will choose isolation.

Insha'Allah, it wil be interesting to watch so as to see what choices are made and how they effect us all.

Ma'a salaam.

I'm a British Muslim myself, and i don't particularly like the idea that 89% of my country doesn't trust me. However, i must say that there are Muslim extremists that go over the top, and who are partly the cause of this kind of opinion. I'm not intending to deny that there are terrorists that take innocent lives in the name of Allah, because that would be daft and cowardly. These terrorists anger me more than anything, and i for one, would like to teach them what the religion they think they're following actually teaches. Unfortunately, they are just as ignorant as other people who let the media influence them too quickly and with far too much ease. I know that sooner or later, the media usually has an effect on everyone, but i'm just saying that some people should learn to think for themselves. To be very honest, i understand why 89% of the population came to this conclusion and as a Muslim, i'm ashamed that the terrorists etc think that they're doing the right thing. This is only my opinion, and therefore holds no meaning to anyone else, however, i believe that Islam is the best religion, but Muslims, like myself, are the worst followers.

can i ask you where you found this survey? anyways i feel very sad either way, whether its true or not. if it was true, i feel that people have definatly got the wrong end of the stick FOR SURE and that if they had took time to understand islam then they would definatly rearrange their thoughts. however if this survey was invalid, i feel so sorry for the person who came up with it and has loss sense with the real world because if they had common sense, they would know that NOT ALL OF THE MUSLIMS IN ENGLAND, AMERICA, OR ELSEWHERE IN THE WORLD ARE TERRORISTS. I know this because there are always fundamentalists in every religion, no doubt but NOT EVERY FOLLOWER IS A TERRORIST the proof is ME because i am not a terrorist and i have people who are non muslims who have put their trust in me so therefore it is just a MINORITY. I also feel that how is it that people dont trust muslims when it is infact the Americans (i.e. abu grahib) army who mimicked the citizens and stole their lives for no mutual reason! there are also pictures of american soldiers abusing citizens which is cold hard evidence and yet the media can hardly highlight that! I mean wow! just proves my point in terms of how they choose to portray diverse parts of society, even the innocent ones. i stress about terrorism because this is the point highlighted in the media so frequently, more than usual which could be the reason (if the survey proved to be valid) why 89% of the people in the uk do not trust muslims. thats my opinion and i'm sure some others would agree with it. thanks anywayz for the Q but overall i think it needs a bit of a think...i'm sad because just for a bunch of idiots who 'THINK' that they are muslims (the terrorists), are infact giving all the innocent muslims grief and basically a hard blimin' time. wow i think this is my longest answer to date. x

Hello, 1) As in Britain and Canada, many Muslims are second and third or more generation and born citizens, Deportation is not a legal option. 2) The French and UK governments in those days were very smart at divide and conquer and they used one loyal group to dominate others. That kind of situation lasts only so long. Part of the mentality of the extremist comes from that era. Colonization was Allah's punishment for adopting the decadent life styles of the west, thanks to the Ottoman Empire who ruled a huge area and wanted modernization in the 18th century. 3) Only 2% of the USA population are Muslims. Anyway the vast majority of Muslims live in Indonesia, not Arabia, the Middle East or North Africa. With many misconceptions, perhaps in future, Muslims in America may face some of the pressures and stereotyping as did the Roman Catholics in the 19th century... is your loyalty to Washington or Rome... Washington or Mecca etc. Cheers, Michael Kelly

I found this survey result as not very suprising, because most of the culprit on the bombing in London are muslim, but the most surprising of all is that the perpetrators are professionals, medical doctors and etc., ordinary Joe will simply think that since the perpetrators are muslims and the common terrorist according to the media are muslims, it will not be surprising that the member of this religion will be stereotype as terrorist, now how come that muslims are branded as a terrorist? Simply because some deranged muslims used the religion of love, tolerance, and understanding as a vessel to sow this horrible crime. If you will only read the Quoran, you will be enlightened. Simply because, first and foremost, it teaches love, second it teaches respect for other religion. Christians teaches the love of enemy but most Christians forgets this most noble teaching of Christ. Muslims however, do it with their lives. If you are an enemy of a Muslim, and you went to see him at his home, you will be protected by the said Muslim at the expense of this life. Nowhere in other religion will you read this. What should be done about it is very simple, in any religion, there are what we call the bad apples, it is the responsibility of the true Muslim community to weed out these bad apples who had given a bad name to the one true religion who worship the one and only God, 'ALLAH"

The fact is there is a growing world wide trend against Muslims. This is due to Bin Laden, and the war in Iraq. It is also because now people are seeing that the religion is run by radicals who want dictator like power that is absolute. People are seeing the murders committed by Muslim's in the name of Allah. Not all Muslim's are this way, but the bad ones are overshadowing the good.

Thats interesting? They wasted Govt money to figure out something I could have told you???

Its easy to figure out - a loud vocal minority of Muslims protests in the streets, and are photographed or filmed carrying signs calling for the beheading of anyone who offends Islam. The media only concentrates on these few vocal minorities and ends up scarring the entire nation.

What should be done? The silent majority of Muslims that claim Islam is a religion of peace should get off their duffs and protest against these protestors and SHOW US that they do not agree and will not allow those minorities to destroy the world's view on Islam.

This survey should not be generalized because there are several kinds of muslims. To mention some in the Phil., we have: Tausog, Maguindanao, Maranao etc.. Some Muslims are traitors, some not, others are loyal to friendship some are not. So this survey should be validated first.

Why don't they trust them???

That should answer your question. You see, the overall view of the Muslim population is simply ruined by protesters like these.

If an alien came to earth and said "I am going to exterminate you", wouldn't you have a natural distrust for the rest of their species? Even if the belief is unfounded (only ONE alien said he was going to destroy the world), it would still be there.

Its simply videos like the one I made a link to that aggravate anti-Muslim feelings, even though the people in that video are a minority of the Muslims in the UK.

While outright distrust is uncalled for, the UK should be on its guard at all times.

Trust is not freely given to anyone who comes along. If an organization has a bad reputation, even just because of one man, they will have to earn the trust of the British people.

A sudden (last 40 years primarily) influx of immigrants who have worldwide notoriety (somewhat unfounded, but every legend has its roots) for being bombers... Well...

Anyone who expects trust from the British people without earning it is foolish.

When the media constantly portray the Muslim community as villainous, why do you think the population dont trust them? The media has made racial profiling ok.

That being said, I'm much more terrified of baseball caps and hoodies than Burkas.
