Uh oh, big problem. I downloaded a copy of Ubuntu Linux. When I used it to install on my Pentium 4 2.4GHz PC, it worked perfectly. In fact, I am now using it to surf the web and writing this article.

However, this morning, my gf came over with her PC and ask me to do the same. Her PC also had the same configuration as mine, ie, Pentium 4 2.4GHz. Unfortunately, the PC was slow initially. Then it hanged there.

I have now deleted her Windows and left her with an unusable PC.

What could be the problem? The CD that I created Ubuntu with can download the software perfectly onto my PC. But cannot do the same for my gf's PC, even though her PC configuration is similar.

What could be the problem? I can't even install Ubuntu Linux on her PC?

Their may be a number of issues affecting your girlfriends' PC. Without specifics, its hard to pinpoint the issue. I would suggest you try to restore your GF's pc at least to it's original state with Windows. Do you have a recovery disk for her system?

Also, use the Ubuntu Live CD download and burn an image. If it does not run from the Live CD, it wont run on her current configuration. I suspect her P4 may have less memory or that a controller in her system is not quite the same as yours.

Later, it the above works, check out the good forum resources on setting up Windows/Ubuntu dual boot at the Ubuntu web site.

Hope this helps.

First answer is good. Running the live CD will be slower as it run from the CD, but, you can see how things work. I have a Laptop and it would hang up and never get to the point of even running the Live CD. It have all the RAM etc. but, it just hangs. I just put my windows back on it for now. I use Ubuntu on this PC no problem. What you can do; search the Inet for "Ubuntu installation 'her PC' "

Here just one web-site. If we knew what her PC is we may be able to find specific installation instructions.

You might try it in safe graphics mode, or just wipe the whole thing clean and try it again. I have had problems installing on pc's with 256 or less RAM, but if you are running a 2.4 gig cpu you should have 512 or more RAM.

You might also try the live cd before installation to detect any hardware problems.

I am sorry to be negative, but this is a bogus account and a "bait" question - and the question certainly is bogus. But here goes anyway. How do I know this question is not legitimate? "this os is beta and 60days trial version" By copyright license (the GPL), Linux cannot be distributed as a TRIAL program, and - by culture - is always a work in progress (the rough meaning of "beta software"). A secondary reason to suspect the questioner has not tried what they say is because they would simply insert the CD, boot it, and be guided through a procedure. So, this question is meant as bait, to garner points for master accounts.

Use a different brand of CD and then try. Also the CD drive maybe faulty or dusty.

Sounds like the most serious error of all - operator error.
