Two things.

1) The price of oil. It's over $85.00 a barrel. Canada has tons of it.

2) In respect to the US dollar, the loonie is strong because the Fed cut both the discount and the fed funds rate. The Bank of Canada didn't. Money flows to higher yields. With respect to the Yen and Renumbi. Japan artificially keeps their currency weak because Japan is an export driven economy. The weaker your currency the cheaper your products are. With regards to China they peg their currency around a range based on the US dollar.

It isn't, it's the US $ going through the floor that makes the Canadian $ look strong.

Compare the Canadian $ to the Euro or Sterling.

Why do AmeriKans always think it is the WORLD'S OTHER CURRENCIES that are screwed up when it is really the U.S. DOLLAR that is being trashed, thanks to George Bush and the way the war has resulted in huge national debt with a SERIOUS devaluation of the U.S. Dollar...

It's NOT THE CANADIAN DOLLAR that is high... it is the AMERIKAN DOLLAR that is not worth crap.

Two reasons-commodity prices are high these days, oil, gold, coal, etc., is all fetching a good price these days and the Canadian economy is good enough that interest rates can remain where they are or be raised.
