The early church eliminated anything that did not further the position of the church.
I just cannot fathom why the fundies are so appalled that Jesus could not have been a virgin. They have an irrational fear of sex.

Because none of Jesus' contemporaries ever heard of Jesus having a son. The gnostic gospels were written much later. Some of them have really cute and fanciful stories; it seems that a lot of people were intrigued with the Jesus story, and wrote stories about him.

Which gospel might that be??? As Jesus having a son was never considered throughout history by the gnostics or orthodox churches rather the consideration is Mary og Magdala bore him a daughter!

Because the Gnostic "gospels" are nothing but fraudulent.
Gnosticism was a heresy that developed in the early years, one which the Apostles spoke against, and which God had them write against in His book, the Bible.
Those books are NOT canonical, never to be trusted. They were written by men claiming to be someone else, in order to get what they wanted.

I find the answers to this question humorous. Why couldn't Jesus of had a child and had been married to Mary. The Church of Today only puts out the information that makes them look good. It's terrible. I would have a lot more respect for the religion if they admitted most the stories were actual 'stories' that taught us morals. It makes me sick.

Because jesus didnt have a son. He never married, he never had sex, he died at 32.
