i just finished one yesterday in 2 hours and 34 minutes. the event was fun btw! anyways i want to train hard for next year i want to run it under 2 hours next year. so if i trained for a year, i mean real serious training how much can i improve on my time?

would i be able to run it between 1 hour and 1 hour and a half? like some of the great kenya runners that were there? or would those goals take a few more years to go that far

running below 2 hrs is no big deal. many recreational runners can do that. but to run below 1.5 hrs not just depend on your serious training, but also your condition of your body, your "running genes". i've been training pretty hard for the past two yrs but could not bring my full marathon timing below 3.5hr. on the other hand, i know a girl who picked up marathon at the age of 35, in one years time, she achieved full marathon timing below 3 hrs.

anyway, start your so call "serious training", you'd probably know whether you can achieve your goal after a month or two.

If you can stay healthy and train for a year you can run under 2 hours.
Running at 1 1/2 hours is doing 7 minute mile pace which is fast for recreational runners.
You will not be able to do what the elite runners do no matter how much you train.
Keep having fun, set goals, work toward those goals.

Work on a training schedule and stick to it. Consistancy is your best weapon. A 1h30 1/2 marathon is a very respectable time, out of reach mor most mortals (including myself at the moment). Not knowing sex, age, and how much training you did, it is impossible to determine what your best time should be.

Running like the elites, you either have it or you don't there is no amount of training the will get you there. I have a friend in his 70's now, started running in his mid 50's and had never done any exercise since he was 15-16, inside 2 weeks he was quicker than my race pace, for his training runs. He ran a sub 3h marathon 18 months later. This is an elite runner, he now runs 3:55 marathons at 72!

There is no way to tell how much training will help you. I am glad that you enjoyed your first 1/2 marathon though. I am sure you can improve and your goal of 2 hours is reasonable. Good luck in your future running.

How much training did you do for this one? If the answer is not much then I would say you could defintely do it in under 2hours if you train for it. Train hard run it and see what your time is, if you dont do it under 1.5 hours then make that a goal and one year you might just do it

you need more time than a year of training to reduce your time by more than half an hour, so get out there and start training.
Best of luck for your goal!!
