I absolutely hate it. It's disgusting and unhygenic. But so many kids are doing it now right? What can we do, as a community, to stop it?

I should add that I confronted someone in Colchester, Essex, who spat in the street in front of me and my young son. He threatened to stab me with a screwdriver. Nice eh?

I believe it is, technically. against the law to spit in the street but with no-brainers like 'spadezgu' around it is probably low on the list of priorities for the authorities. I'd make them lick it up.

In most communities, spitting on public property is illegal. Furthermore, if this person you confronted threatened you, THAT is illegal ALSO. I would have been right on the phone with the police. Do you not have "citizens arrests" in your community? That person could be arrested for the threats and for the spitting.

I'm not saying to confront everyone you see spitting so that they will threaten you! HA! NO!

Without direct confrontation, the best reaction is to look them up and down with a terribly disgusted look on your face, such as you are saying a long, drawn out, "EEEEEWWWWW!!!" as you look them up/down. Maybe the addition of the "EEEEEWWWWWW!" might add emphasis, but is an "escalation" of your reaction, and may just draw confrontation from the offending party.

Have a polite day.

Spitting in the street is defenitely an bad habit. Tell the kids to avoid this and make them understand the bad effects of the same.

I do remember a mother being confronted and humiliated when her child was doing just that. Why? He suffered from a genetic lung disease the name of which escapes my mind but many of you will know. A very courageous boy who sadly died a few years later. I like you do not like to see it but am reluctaant to condem

First teach your kids that it is disgusting to do it and maybe if you see your kids playing with other kids you should tell the other kids that too. Overtime, through word of mouth, this should stop.

it is yucky! but some kids don't know the difference they may think it is fun! instead of gross..
some older kids may do it because they are board and there sin't enough fun things for them to do after school..
and some do it for spite!

try to get your communicty to gether to make a potistion or fining system for spitters! if caugh you will have to servew 23 weekends of public service! and pay 50$ fine for your 1st time and it will increase every time after!

The only thing is proof how can you really proof that someone spit!
yes dna and testing but can your city afford that? will the community pay for it if the city can't?

ect..

Scouse, You are referring to Cystic Fibrosis and that is quite different from some punk spitting his vile tuberculin lung butter on the sidewalk. Just gross and dirty.

A clip around the earhole used to work in my time...it still would ...just make sure you're out of sight of the CCTV...then leg it.
Better still, rub their noses in it...works for shitting dogs...these scum are no better.
As for that slag spadezgu...if she spat in my face, I guarantee she wouldn't do it again

OH yes, you have to be soo careful these days as you can get killed from a small issue like this - it is unbelievable what days we have got to live nowadays.... I think they should be reported and given community service hours as they are a disgrace.
