Unfortunately, WWIII will be global suicide, therefore in answer to your question, as long as there's rational superpowers who believe in MAD, there will be no WW3. By definition, the next world war wil be nuclear, how could it not. In a nuclear war there will be no winner. In a nuclear world, the only true enemy is war itself.

The next World War will involve a nuclear exchange, how could it not if both sides believe no price for victory will be too high. In the first 30 minutes, nearly a billion people will have been vaporised, mostly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. Another 1.5 billion will die shortly thereafter from radiation poisoning. The northern hemisphere will be plunged into prolonged agony and barbarity.

Eventually the nuclear winter will spread to the southern hemisphere and all plant life will die. You ask what country would be victorious, you are asking when will we commit global suicide. My answer is it won't happen soon because the larger superpowers are more rational than the rump states in the middle east.

While we hear talk of a nuclear-Iran or a confrontation with NorKor, little is said about the 2 bulls in the glass shop. The arsenals of Russia and the US are enough to destroy a million Hiroshimas. But there are fewer than 3000 cities on the Earth with populations of 100,000 or more. You cannot find anything like a million Hiroshimas to obliterate. Prime military and industrial targets that are far from cities are comparatively rare. Our biggest threat is from an accidental launch by the Russians.

At the point of global suicide, it doesn't matter who is on what side....where you go to hide, or how long you can survive. In a nuclear age like i said before, the only true enemy is war itself.

We have come to point where a 3rd world war is almost impossible. With the technology world powers have, it is a sure thing that every participant, and even those who won't participate, will be affected. The leading nations know this.

And have you ever asked yourself why the U.S. still insists that a missile defense system be developed in Europe? Russia may be a bit bankrupt, but it poses a military threat: its nuclear arsenal can easily annihilate the U.S., thus the never-ending talks between the two military powers.

Russia has the capacity to launch 300 nuclear warheads for every U.S. state. Even if the U.S. wins later, how can it rise from the ashes when it is obvoius that there will be nothing to rise from. Will the U.S be willing to sacrifice its economic prowess just for the sake of winning in a 3rd world war? I don't think so.

We are talking of just two players. What if all the other powers participate? You can just imagine the devastation a third word war can bring. World leaders will do anything to prevent such war.

It will be the USA. See wars are only started by nations with megalomaniac leaders. When they have no clear assessment of their real strength and are misled by their hunger to rule. The USA has been acting as the global policeman for decades. It has started tens of wars but never won a single one. I hope I am wrong but I think we have pissed off too many people and we have crossed too many boundaries.

doesnt mean the Chinese might not invade Taiwan and start it up before Bush gets it rolling by attacking Iran with the Chinese and Russians siding with Iran, anything is possible

that he is willing to even consider opening this can of worms for the "possibility" that Iran is working on a bomb that even if they were wouldnt be ready for at least 5 or 6 years

let them squander the money on it, then bomb them 3 years from now after they spent it all

or maybe we'll luck out and they will abandon the project long before we need to bomb

I think we're pretty close with Iran and Turkey. We're pissing off a lot of nations right now. If a few team up were in WWIII pretty quick. I think many developing nations wouldn't want war right now because of recent economical gain but who know. Most likely this war on terror is already it.
