Why are so many good, decent and loving religious people willing to take a black eye?

Why do so many of you allow hate mongers and half informed, radical right wing bigots to besmirch religion, faith and God?

Why don’t the truly faithful and loving, those who truly know God, or whomever you worship, why don’t you regulate the hypocrisy and bigotry that is shoveled onto the world by so many evil doers in the name of your God?

It’s a horrible condition. I wish you would all stand up and take your God back from those who would use him to preach, and instill hate and worse, use Him to promote murder.

What a wonderful world it would be.

What I am asking is why don't ALL of you who I didn't T-Down (because you are exactly of whom I am speaking) just speak out against the abuse of religion and God or whatever you feel is the height of your faith?
Doesn't it make you angry, sad, upset that the world of Faith is seen through the very vocal and out spoken haters?

It makes me crazy to think the world watches extremists and accepts THEM as a representation of the whole.

They are not. Why not tell people? Why be passive when the institution is threatened?

And don’t tell me “Who gets to decide?”
YOU decide when you allow hate to sway and move the world.

This isn’t arrogance; it’s an honest question.

Notice all the T-Downs on any answer that promotes any discourse with honest and loving thought?

THAT is arrogance.

A billion people with a billion distortions cannot change who God is. All they can do is create distorted religions.

ALL religions are man-made. This means they are going to fallible, changeable and temporary.

The problem is not the distortions, but the fact that so many see religion as synonymous with God.

This is the misconception to change.

God cannot be defined by man. That would mean that God is no greater than man.

I really hate to be like this but many people fear other people's opinions of them and think that if something drastic like that was done they would still go to hell (which many are) Long story not going to discuss it with religious fanatics. Just believe what you believe and I will believe what I believe. I realize you are deeply moved by the spirit but there are people who use god's name yes to condone murder or things to that nature. Let me guess you are one of those people who believe that the death penalty should be abolished am I right?? Think for just one second about someone you deeply care for and could not imagine your life without them. Now imagine some crazed person killed that person and got off with out any punishment? How would you feel about that? You think there is a all seeing God that is going to take care of that for you? I don't think so. If it wasn't for such practices there would be chaos in the streets. No one would feel safe and murderers and rapists and god forbid child molesters running rampart in the streets. So as far as taking my god back from those people that use it for those types of practices hell no I feel safer if I know that my daughter or my husband or even me can sleep at night because murderers and rapists and child molesters go to jail and some deserve the death penalty. Just my opinion Don't take it the wrong way I am not bashing your religion nor anyone's religion.

There are crazies in all religions that twist it around and
take it too far whether everyone believes that or not.
I think you are kind of taking it too far.
I have some friends who are Republican and they do
not care for Ann Coultor and they do not fit the category
you are putting them in. Not all of them are like that.
However, I really try not to shove my beliefs on others,
I think most of them know what it is about already. I
know some will disagree with me but I think it would
be better if we did not try to force our beliefs on others
and tell them only when they ask about it.
I hope you can have a good day.

There aren't very many true Christians out there. I think Bill said it best:

But man, proud man,
Dressed in a little brief authority,
Most ignorant of what he's most assured,
His glassy essence, like an angry ape,
Plays such fantastic tricks before high heaven
As make the angels weep.

I am a staunch believer in Atheism, but I would never try and put my views across in such an arrogant manner.

Reason being, I will never try and TELL people that my beliefs are the only way forward....

And which followers of what version of god do you want to take control? There in lies the problem, too many versions and they all think they have the 'right' one.

Religion is the opiate of the masses.

Religion is showered on society and I think it is time to dry off.

Are we back to the "true" Christian/Muslim/Jew/Hindu, etc, argument?

*sigh* Who gets to decide who's right/wrong? I assure you, the fundamentalists are just as eager to say the moderates aren't "true" Christians as the reverse.
