does anyone know if a powerpoint presentation, burned on a cd will convert exactly, so it can be played on a dvd at a wedding etc?

You mean that you want to burn PowerPoint to DVD and view it on TV with a DVD remote control so that you can go back, forward, jump to other slides as you can. Hi,

It depends on what method you use to save the presentation as a movie file.

PowerPoint's built-in File > Make Movie feature (Mac only) will substitute certain animations and transitions.

To get the best fidelity there's an expensive program called Impatica that you can use.

Less expensive are screen capture programs such as SnapZPro (Mac) and Camtasia (Windows). These are excellent capture programs and will record the screens and audio tracks.
