Anyone know why the spell check function does not work in Word? I have re-installed MS Word. I'm working in Office 2002. Whenever I run spell-check, the mis-spelled word appears. But I can't manually or in any select any of the suggested words. Nor can I select the "add to dictionary" feature which is greyed out. I've already gone in & totally cleared out all words from my custom.dic file. I've also run a scan on my system for viruses. Thanks.

This is odd. have you tried going to Tools in the menu bar, slect Options, click the Spelling tab and making sure all the necessary check boxes are checked.

If you did a custom install of Word you may not have the proofing tools installed.

You can to into Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and choose Word 2002. Click the "change" button. Put a tick mark in the "add/remove features." Check that you have the proofing tools installed under "Office Shared Features."
