Looks like you're back peddling on your question. How could making the race longer insure that he wouldn't run out of gas? How would that help him to have another restart? How would it help him to have a Green/White/Checker finish?
Get off the conspiracy theories folks. They didn't change ANY rules on Saturday night. They red flagged the race which is standard for large wrecks near the end of the race. They then had a Green/White/Checker finish which caused the race to run even longer than normal. Pretty much standard rules for NASCAR.

Not sure what you are talking about. The race actually ran 3 laps LONGER, not shorter than its scheduled distance meaning that Gordon was more in danger of running out of gas, not less. The scheduled race distance was 334 laps. After the Newman crashed on lap 331, the race was EXTENDED into a GWC finish. The actual total number of laps run was 337.

NASCAR added laps to help Gordon save gas? hmmm something doesnt sound right about your conspiracy theory. HERE IS WHAT YOU PEOPLE DONT GET. Gordon had gas...the only reason it sputtered was become the engine was being starved due to the red flag as well as the fuel going to one side of the fuel pickup due to the banking of the track. Kyle Busch after the race said he had 2 gallons of fuel left in his car so im sure Gordon had about the same. He wasnt running out of fuel...learn something about racing before you people ask stupid questions, Once he went to the apron and allowed the fuel to level its self out so to speak, it was fine...get over youe theories and accept Gordon won the race.

Good question.
It is at the point politics is playing a huge part in the sport. The popularity of NASCAR is drawing fans from all walks of life.NASCAR wants to showcase certain drivers and teams.
If a team/driver can generate fans then this equals money.
Jeff Gordon is on track to be the NASCAR superstar of this era.The goal is total number of championships(to pass both Petty and Earnhardt).
As for changing number of laps that was not the issue, the issue is they run eaxtra laps under caoution so several teams would still have fuel.Several of the top 10 positions were nearly out of fuel so to keep a repeat of Kansas NASCAR run extra laps under yellow so the drivers could conserve fuel.

It ran longer because of something they call "The Rules". A caution came out near the end and would have ended under caution had they not extended to the "green-white-checker" overtime rule. How does adding laps help a car save gas? Please explain that to me. If I am driving home and my car is sputtering, I am going to stop at the next gas station, not decide to drive slow for an extra 10 miles out of my way.

As far as the first part of the question:
...I am going to have to say yes. Dale Jr is the only person I know of that Nascar created a new rule in the race against. Dale Jr was speeding down pit road because of an accident and Nascar put him a lap down.
...There is no other driver that has been put a lap down for speeding on pit road. And yes it did change the outcome of the race because Dale Jr had a car to beat at that particular race.
As far as the second part of the question:
...They added laps to the race so no that didn't help Gordon win. Nascar was making one attempt to finish the race under a green flag.

Sorry, Catman. Making the race longer would have HURT Gordon, the guy was darn near out of gas. Wouldn't have had an extended race were it not for Newman's spin out.
6th win and a cloud of dust, baby! The drive for five is becoming a reality!!!
Woo-hoo!

The race actually ran LONGER because of the green white checkered. So, Jeff Gordon was in more danger of running out of gas. I am NOT a Gordon fan either, so I am not making it up. He won fair and square, but I was sure rooting for Bowyer to pass him since Newman crashed.

Nascar has never changed rules to manipulate the outcome of a race. Although rules change from year to year which seem to favor a particular team..........all teams are fully aware of the new rules. As for the last race you refer to........with the yellow flag, remember a few years ago. when the yellow or red come out and only 5 laps to go it;s Green,White,Checkered after that..............All drivers knew this and not just Gordon has benefited from it!
