Misery loves company and atheists run in the same flock.
I used to be one myself and knew people who really didn't want to know if there was a god because they liked their sinful life and didn't want to obey. Yes, believing carries a responsibility to live like your Creator wants you to; but great is His faithfulness as his burden is light and His assets are eternal.
Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

One of the problems is that a lot of important decisions are made in this country and other countries with reference to religions which in fact have no factual or even believable basis. One example in the UK is the decision to allow shops to open on Sundays. There is no real reason why a shop should not open any time they wish as long as they observe the laws applying to employee rights and any nuisance they may cause but the decision was held up for years by the religious influence.
Atheists generally are not really concerned if people want to spend their time praising some imaginary deity most of us just want the religious influence removed from important decisions. There are of course those atheists who have been injured in some way by a religious organisation and are simply trying to get some sort of revenge but I think they are the exception rather than the rule

Not sure why you would phrase it like "they neither want me or need me among them" especially since "we" are not an organization, we don't take applications, you just become an atheist and then you are one.
The effort is done so that people will be aware that legislating their morals in not an acceptable practice, especially when their morals are based on an external system. Then there is also the problem with blurring myth and science and what should be taught to school students.

I am somewhat indifferent to what your personal beliefs are, but I will oppose any attempt by believers to suck other people into their delusional world. Religion has too much influence in the world, and much of it is harmful.
That is why I am here to put my point of view.
Oddly, many of the responses from believers who support you seem very defensive. Is this because believers feel they are losing the argument?

We are just putting forward our opinions, based on reason. If you want to waste your time believing in a silly myth, go ahead. But you'll never bring me round to your point of view.

We don't! I could care less what fairy tales you believe in! But when theist make statements to the effect that their fantasies are the truth, and that people ought to start living their lives according to them, that's when I get on my hind legs and start braying 'liar liar pants on fire'!

It's less trying to convert, more like taunting the kid who still believes in Santa even after he's been told the truth.

Becuase the church still influences world policies.
Thousands of people die in Africa due to the church's stance on contraception.
It is not just about what you believe, but the church has mi8llions of followers are many many people die beucase of what was written in a book 2,000 years ago.
