It´s chilly here, and my cat´s nose is wet and he keeps sneezing-should I worry?

Cats catch colds, but not human colds because they are spread by a virus and very few viruses can cross that broad a species line, only rabies comes to mind.

Cats can share with us such things as bubonic plague and whooping cought (knew a cat that caught it once - not fatally) because they are caused by a bacteria which can affect most animals.

Cats can also have allergies and asthma. My cat has asthma.

Hi-

Cats can get a cold, they can also get an something called an upper respiratory infection, (URI). If they are kittens, a URI if left untreated, can be dangerous.

If you cat has any discharge from its nose, especially if its yellow or green, and if the cats breathing sounds like its congested, I would get the cat to the vet soon just to have it checked. A URI is treatable with an antibiotic. Sneezing doesn't mean the cat has a URI, that could just be dust or even allergies, (yes cats can have allergies)

I just adopted a cat from the shelter and was warned about an upper respiratory infection they can get, about 2 days ago she got it and ive never seen a cat look so sick. she was constently sneezing and breathing really weird with her mouth open and it was really scary to see as I had no idea what to do.
I called the vet and they told me its ok as long as shes eating, drinking and not acting strange like anti-social.
They said if she had any of these symptoms or was really old or a kitten that would be the only time to be concerned and bring her into a vet.

All animals get colds, some times if they catch a bug or something nasty yes it can be fatal, See your vet if the cat is sick for to long.
