What would you like to compare? Doctrines? Protestants believe in sola fide and sola scriptura which Catholics reject as unscriptural. But there is really nothing to compare. Your question should have been which is the true Church?

Jesus said:

"thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18, KJV)

"Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me" (John 17:20-23, KJV)

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world" (Matthew 28:19-20, KJV).

Jesus established only one church, the one He founded on Peter, the rock. He prayed that all His followers would be one, and He promised that He would be with His Church until the end of the world. This was recognized by Saint Paul when he wrote:

"Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit -- just as you were called to one hope when you were called -- one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all" (Ephesians 4:3-6, NIV).

One faith means one set of beliefs, one set of doctrines; doctrines which never change. There is only one Catholic Church but there are over 26,000 Protestant denominations today; each separated from the other by differing doctrines. Each of these denominations can be traced back to a single individual who was not Saint Peter or one of the apostles.

Every Christian church possesses some of the truths revealed by our Lord but only the Catholic Church can trace its origins all the way back to Jesus and Saint Peter through the rite of ordination; the laying on of hands and passing on of episcopal responsibility and authority. Because only the Catholic Church can be traced all the way back to Jesus, only the Catholic Church can be said to possess all the revealed truth. After all, Jesus founded the Church, promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against it (which means that it would be perpetual and not teach error), and promised to be with it until the end of time. Not at the end of time, but continually until the end of time. Either the Catholic Church was and is the one true Church, or the Bible is wrong, or Jesus lied.

One cannot do so as the Protestants are not one church. There are many; Anglican, Baptist, Pentecostal etc. Protestantism is more prevalent in the US though. Protestants generally have a different take on the Bible and doctrine to Catholics. Catholics Baptize their children at a young age whereas some Protestants have Believers Baptism, where they are Baptized as adults when can make an informed decision to follow Christ. Also Christ was Baptized as an adult so some emulate him in this fashion. Although most agree that Baptism is a sacrament. Catholics have seven sacraments; Baptism Communion (Eucharist Confession Confirmation Matrimony Ordination Extreme Unction (or Last Rites) Some Protestants agree that Baptism is a sacrament as well as Communion as they are in the Bible, however do not think they have any spiritual credence so do not see them as sacred.

There has always been a True church from the day of Pentecost to now and it will be here till Jesus returns. Catholics always say the were the only ones who existed for the first 1500 years before the protestants but that is a big lie. Why did the catholic church kill so many CHRISTIANS throughout the ages.

here a is quote from one of their popes
"The priest is, indeed, another Christ, or in some way, he is himself a continuation of Christ." (Pope Pius XI, Encylical on the Priesthood)

Catholics always opposed the full truth and killed anyone who got in their way.

451 voted for infallibility. But by a strategy of politicking and threatening all but two of the dissenters left Rome before a final vote was taken. At the last meeting of the council, on July 18, 1870, it was decided by 533 votes to 2 that the pope was infallible when defining a doctrine concerning faith or morals."

on dogma; very little difference.

as the most obvious; walk into a protestant church and then walk into a catholic church... the catholic church is chock FULL of idols.... in DIRECT contradiction of NUMEROUS old and new testament scriptures which command Israelites and Christians to never worship idols.

the protestant and catholic religions BOTH believe in the Trinity, which is a FALSE doctrine. There is One God, Jehovah. God sent His Son, Jesus, to become a HUMAN on the earth. God has at NO TIME come to this planet. IN FACT, God's dwelling is not even IN this physical universe. If God were to actually come into this universe, then it would HAVE to be destroyed, because of His overwhelming power. The Bible says that God dwells in the heavens OF the heavens, and in the book of the Revelation to mankind, when angels of God are said to be pouring out denunciations of God on the earth, they are said to be standing by the glassy sea in front of the throne of God.

There are more things that unite Protestants and Catholics than divide them.

These type answers always get me banned despite the truth. One comparison is the consistent number of pedophiles. It is axiomatic that predators go where there is prey. Youth ministries, being a veritable feeding ground for such predators, are obvious targets. Both churches have a long history of either ignoring or covering up the predators.

...before you start doing all that... Compare "all" of them with the way Jesus worshiped... that is the true measure of following God... Not the "religious" gymnastics and dogmas, doctrines and traditions of the "false" churches set up in His Name... Read the Scriptures... Jesus clearly said He was the Way... not the Church of Rome that follows the "rants" of old men who look like they just stepped off a chess-board, kissing one-anothers rings, waving smoke, ringing bells and playing with iconic trinkets and preforming "hokus-pokus" that would rival David Copperfield... It's not about "religions" it's about a "relationship" with God thru His Word... not all the extra bibicial books and special books that "they" try to pass off as "scripture"... "baloney" !

A comment on St Boniface's answer:
He quoted Matthew 16:18, "thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it"
In the Greek, when Jesus addressed Peter, he used the word "little rock." When he said "Upon this rock..." he used a different word for rock and was referring to himself.
The church of Jesus Christ is built upon Jesus Christ, not on Peter.
