Running marginally, but consider the damage to your knees and hip joints etc etc with prolonged running.

Running will burn more calories.
Now, lets look at things with more depth.
How long can you run?
Can you speed your heart up enough by walking as to make it a good calorie burning exercise?
What can you do longer and with less harm?
What do you enjoy the most?
Power or speed walking can be a great aerobic exercise and fat burner. You just need to do them at a good intensity level as to get your heart rate up, and be able to hold the effort for at least 20 minutes. (Just as with running, etc.).
Walking this way will build more muscle than running, so you will end up with toner muscles, = more fat burning capacity.
Walking can be done for longer periods of time and with less harm to your joints, etc.
So it is not an easy choice. The best answer would be,: it depends on how you do it and for how long.
To put the matter to rest; What activity do you like the most?
Do it for you will stick with it longer and enjoy it more.

Both of the above answers are wrong.
Running is miles miles better than walking.
It will burn off a lot of calories, increase your lung function and heart rate (which will decrease your resting heart rate over time, which is good btw.) Walking will not do any of this. You will not burn off a fraction of the calories just walking.
You will be working in a different 'zone' when you are running rather than jogging for example (cardio zone, not fat burning zone) which means your heart rate will be working at 85% of its maximum. But studies have shown that working in this higher zone burns slightly less calories during the initial workout, but carries on burning them for longer during the day. This is because the fitter you are, the better and faster your metabolism becomes, and you simply just burn cals faster, even when you have finished training!
Don't believe all this walking/moderate excercise crap. Yes, it is okay for you, but only if you compare it to doing sod all. Running and real excercise is better.

They both burn about the same number of calories. It's simply physics. Running might burn more in an inexperienced runner, because it involves more "bouncing", but the difference isn't significant. However, there are other things to consider.
1. Running raises your heart rate more than walking, which is more beneficial to your cardiovascular system
2. Although they both burn about the same number of calories, running tends to burn more carbs than fat because of the higher heart rate
3. Walking puts less stress on your legs (knees in particular) which is better for preventing injuries

Hi,
I've tried so many different diets in the last 10 years that I can say now, they don't work!
A few months ago, I came across a great product for weight loss and like many others I was skeptical about it. But I really wanted to lose weight and I tried it. The results were excellent and I lost 20 pounds in 2 months. I felt fantastic and I dropped another 5 pounds safely. That's why I recommend you check this product at http://www.better-life-thinner.us where they have a free trial and you only pay $6.95 shipping and handling.
Good luck!

Gavin Hastings (rugby legend) used to do a health ad on TV in Scotland, saying that you used as much energy walking a mile as running a mile, but it was taken off air when this was disproved.
Running uses more.

Go for protein rather than sugar to keep energy levels going strong rather then crashing. Edamame in pods will be the perfect snack since it takes some time to eat and a one-cup offering offers 12 grams of proteins.

Running burns more calories. Burning 3,500=1 pound weight loss.
Even though running burns more, they are both good for your help and can both help you lose weight.

Just as a side note, if you decide to run. Be sure to either run on the grass or on one of those tracks that is slightly "padded". Also buy good shoes.
