Spironolactone is an effective hypotensive and a diuretic. It acts by antagonising aldosterone. It`s use decreases sodium reabsorption and water retention.
It corrects primary and secondary aldosteronism.
Hypertension, and cirrhosis of liver are the main indications.

It is used for high blood pressure, as a diuretic --which means treatment for swelling, and also there is a little of it in a few birth control pills.
