Yes, as your other answerers stated. You definately don't want the dark color bleeding thru. Kilz or Binz are two shellac based primers that will seal it and prime it. (these will also keep crayons, marker, mold stains and other things from bleeding thru also.) Any type of paint can be painted over them. Usually one coat works, and costs about the same as a gallon of paint. And a one coat paint will cover the Kilz or Binz in one coat!

Only way to do this properly is buy a tin of white undercoat/primer and give one good coat of this first ,preferably with a roller. This will seal the previous colour and stop it bleeding thru and set u up for 2 coats of what ever is your chosen colour

with darker colors it can bleed through with using alot of coats , by using the proper undercoating your ensuring the seal to apply the lighter color and youd also save yourself the labor and chance of applying too much and causing a cakey affect......if its because the proper undercoat costs more than alot of white, add it all up with all the extra white youll be using and itll probaly cost the same...also this is your home, give it its best...good luck!!

You really must prime it first. Not only will that deter bleeding but it will be less costly than those extra gallons of white and you would still see bleeding. Do it right and you'll have less work.
